Serving as a volunteer Board Director for the Mission to Seafarers Southern Ontario (MTSSO) offers a unique and fulfilling opportunity to make a significant impact on the lives of seafarers visiting the Ports of Oshawa, Toronto, Hamilton, and Port Colborne. As a member of an international organization, MTSSO provides a welcoming and supportive environment for seafarers, offering a variety of services regardless of faith or background.
As a volunteer Board Director, you will play a vital role in shaping the direction of our organization and advancing our strategy to provide a supportive and welcoming experience for international seafarers. You will have the opportunity to work alongside a dedicated team, sharing your skills, knowledge, and experience to help guide our organization and drive our impact forward. You will also play a key role in developing our strategic vision, supporting board governance, and helping us achieve our fundraising goals.
We are seeking individuals who are passionate about our mission and are particularly interested in candidates with a background and experience in fundraising, donor and stakeholder engagement, and financial management. Candidates should be committed to actively participating in our governance and strategic planning.
About The Commitment
Members of the Board are volunteers and, as such, serve without compensation. This voluntary commitment involves :
- Attending and actively participating in an informed manner at Board, committee, and annual general meetings; meetings are usually via video.
- Periodically representing MTSSO at events or in meetings with external parties.
- Chairing or sitting on committees of the Board as required.
- Committing to serve a three-year term.
- Expecting up to 10 Board meetings per year of no more than 2 hours each.
- Contributing to the organization in a variety of ways and attendance at MTSSO events (usually in Hamilton, Ontario).
The Application Process
Please submit your resume to Amanda Curtis at [email protected] . Shortlisted candidates will be invited to provide additional information and will be scheduled for a video meeting.
Why should you volunteer for this opportunity?
By joining our board, you will not only contribute your skills and experience to help guide our organization but also gain valuable insights that can benefit your personal and professional growth. Volunteering with MTSSO allows you to give back to the community while experiencing the rewarding sense of making a positive difference in the lives of those we serve.
