Job description

Venor is proud to partner with Terraine Capital in their search for a Director of Business Development in Halifax, Nova Scotia.

Terraine Capital is an investment company specializing in real estate and business development. Its diverse portfolio spans real estate, building supplies, manufacturing, landscaping, hospitality, and the construction industry.

Reporting to the COO, the Director of Business Development will spearhead growth and sales initiatives across all Terraine Capital companies. This role is pivotal in building strategic relationships, uncovering new business opportunities, and increasing the visibility of each entity. Acting as an extension of each business unit, the Director will focus on driving business and sales growth by identifying new opportunities, strengthening client relationships, aligning strategies with company goals, and exploring funding avenues to support long-term success.

What you’ll be doing :

  • Design and execute a comprehensive business development strategy that aligns with business units across the portfolio of companies within Terraine Capital
  • Identify new markets, industry trends, and business models to drive long-term success.
  • Enhance the visibility and profile of each company by attending trade shows, industry events, and local functions.
  • Network with influencers, key figures, and government representatives at municipal, provincial, and federal levels to build and strengthen brand awareness.
  • Actively pursue new business opportunities and make introductions to the relevant team members across our companies.
  • Oversee lead generation activities and engage with prospective clients and build a robust pipeline of qualified opportunities, using data and market insights to prioritize high-impact initiatives for the business units.
  • Research and identify potential funding grants, including options from municipal, provincial or federal government or industry-specific resources.
  • Track available funding that aligns with company goals, providing insight into opportunities for growth financing.
  • Build and maintain relationships with industry leaders, clients, and key stakeholders across multiple sectors.
  • Represent the portfolio of companies at industry and networking events, maintaining a professional image that reflects each business.
  • Assist the management team by establishing and nurturing connections that further strategic objectives.

The ideal candidate will bring over 7 years of experience in business development, including at least 3 years in a leadership role within the construction, manufacturing and sales sectors. A successful track record in driving growth, lead generation and partnership building is essential. This role requires excellent interpersonal skills, resilience, high energy and the agility to navigate diverse industry landscapes effectively. A Bachelor’s degree will be considered an asset but not a prerequisite.

As the successful candidate, you demonstrate strong leadership and consistently achieve sales targets, with the ability to make swift, independent decisions. You are skilled at communicating professionally with external vendors and partners, fostering robust relationships. Your analytical expertise and problem-solving abilities are well developed, allowing you to work both autonomously and under deadlines with precision and results orientation.
