Alexi is Toronto based VC ($15M Series A) funded AI LegalTech company building tools and technology to solve problems for lawyers and litigation professionals . We are on a mission to transform the legal services industry by building cutting edge AI-powered solutions and our team is made of industry leading software engineers, AI / ML engineers, scientists, lawyers and designers.As of today, we are looking to hire a Staff Engineer and their time will be split 50% engineering 50% architecture. The Staff Engineer will also lead the architecture and development of scalable, resilient applications, with a focus on best practices, performance optimization, and cross-team collaboration.The successful engineer will also be responsible for the following on a day to day basis : Design and architect applications from the ground up, ensuring scalability, resilience, and future-proofing for multiple regions.Own the architecture and delivery of projects, setting and meeting timelines and deadlines.Lead by example, outlining best practices for development and ensuring they are followed across teams.Provide guidance on building applications that are optimized for performance, including latency and reliability.Take responsibility for ensuring the application’s architecture supports future growth and potential changes.Mentor and guide teams, ensuring that architecture and development decisions are well understood and executed.Communicate technical decisions clearly, especially when introducing new concepts like containerization and cloud deployments.Contribute to the integration of observability tools like Datadog, Dynatrace, and ensuring the system is resilient to failure points.It is expected the Staff Engineer has skills and experience in the following : Strong experience in application architecture, especially large-scale, multi-region applications.Proficient in Python and PostgreSQL (experience with non-relational and vector databases highly valued).Deep understanding of performance optimization, especially in latency reduction and system reliability.Experience in containerization and cloud-based deployments, with the ability to articulate the advantages of these technologies.Experience with AI / LLM (Large Language Models), including LangChain and related technologies (nice to have).Ability to design and implement service level objectives (SLOs) and integrate observability tools.Strong leadership and communication skills to drive cross-team collaboration and decision-making.If you feel you have the above experience and skills, APPLY NOW and we will be in touch with all suitable candidates!
