Job description

Location : Ottawa

The Bank of Canada, Canada’s central bank, is the pre-eminent macroeconomic institution in Canada. Through its policies and actions, the Bank of Canada has an important impact on the economic lives of all Canadians. The Bank of Canada is responsible for conducting monetary policy to keep inflation low, stable, and predictable; contributing to a stable and well-functioning financial system; designing and issuing bank notes that Canadians can use with confidence; and providing high-quality funds-management services to the Government of Canada and other clients. The Bank contributes to global economic and financial stability, while steadfastly maintaining its independence. To enable this public mandate, the Bank also undertakes important and innovative work across a range of corporate functions such as Information Technology, Legal, Security, Risk, Finance, Communications and

Human Resources.

The Financial Services department supports effective strategic planning and financial management across the Bank and provides sound accounting and reporting for the Bank and its related entities. The department is responsible for the accounting and financial reporting of the Bank as a corporate entity as well as the Exchange Fund Account, the Government debt for which the Bank is fiscal agent and the Bank’s two pension plans. It provides financial management, business advice and services while promoting strong financial governance and reporting.

Reporting to the Chief Financial Officer, the Senior Director, Financial Operations will provide strategic leadership to a diverse team of experienced financial professionals who are responsible for the accounting, payment operations, corporate travel services, external financial reporting, internal controls framework, accounting standards and tax compliance, and other related finance functions of the Bank. The Senior Director provides leadership, professional expertise and monitors adherence to financial policies and procedures in support of the Bank’s business objectives and obligations. To achieve the department’s strategic objectives, you will implement continuous-improvement strategies and practices to optimize the financial operations functions and create a culture that encourages staff to innovate.

As the ideal candidate, you are an inspiring leader with outstanding financial and accounting knowledge and an in-depth understanding of international financial reporting standards and other related business practices. You have a high level of integrity and believe in fostering a positive organizational climate that enables colleagues to grow and contribute to the best of their abilities. You also have a successful track record in providing strategic advice and recommendations to other executives and senior leaders and experience working within a complex and multi-stakeholder organization. A skilled partnership builder, you excel in developing and maintaining professional relationships with a variety of internal and external stakeholders that are founded on collaboration, mutual respect, and partnership. You are a gifted bilingual communicator with an open and collaborative leadership style, eligible for Secret clearance and are eager to enable the Bank to further promote the economic and financial welfare of Canada.
