JOB SYNOPSIS:

Under the direction and supervision of the Trail Crew Supervisor, the Summer Trail Crew’s primary role is to maintain and improve ski runs and trails around the resort. This involves brushing, limbing, bucking and burning brush and debris. The Summer Trail Crew position performs a variety of tasks around the resort; water course management, landscaping, wildlife monitoring, trail maintenance and building, campground maintenance and clean up, daily bathroom cleaning, firewood collection, facility maintenance, painting projects, and occasionally equipment operation. It is a diverse job that requires an eagerness to work hard in the outdoors environment.
The Summer Trail Crew position is to also be responsible for the maintenance and upkeep of the Hummingbird Lodge and Campground facility. This includes; campground maintenance, cleaning and maintaining the campground washrooms, ensuring all exterior garbage’s are emptied daily, stocking firewood, maintaining nearby trails and bike trails, and all outdoor signage.

SUMMARY OF RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Maintenance of slopes including but not limited to: re-vegetation, clearing, brushing, burning, maintaining runoff structures, signage, and improvements.
- Chainsaw work as required. This includes bucking, stumping, limbing, and if certified, falling trees around the resort in accordance with regulations and prescription.
- General maintenance and improvement of resort ski runs, signage, and facilities.
- General landscaping around the resort.
- Erosion control and water course management around the resort.
- Hiking and biking trail installation and maintenance.
- Firewood collection, splitting, and distribution.
- Maintenance and upkeep of the Hummingbird Lodge and Campground including; campsite maintenance, washroom cleaning, garbage removal, rule enforcement, general landscaping.
- Maintain crew equipment in top working order (chainsaws, brush cutters, fire pumps, etc.) or ensure that appropriate action is taken to repair your tools.
- Occasionally set up water pump delivery systems for fire prevention and landscape needs.
- Might be trained in the operation of equipment like Loaders and Skid Steers to complete projects around the resort.
- Proper storage and inventory of tools and equipment to ensure that they are available when needed.
- Daily record keeping including vehicle check sheets, watercourse observation, trail checks, and Wildlife monitoring.
- Arrive at work on time and completely prepared for working outside in all conditions (proper footwear, clothing, food/water, rain gear, PPE, and well-rested).
- Be Aware of your surroundings and work safely. Report Accidents or Incidents to your supervisor immediately.
- Ability to complete a variety of small building maintenance projects, like painting, unsupervised.
- Drive ATVs and UTV safely
- Clean and maintain Washrooms and Campground. This involves changing garbage's.
- Must be able to work a flexible schedule (weekends and holidays) as required by summer operating hours, special events and Fire Danger Rating Required.
- Champion a sustainable approach in daily operations, planning, and development.
- Actively support Whitewater’s safety culture by following WorkSafeBC OHS Regulations and company safety procedures, reporting hazards, and contributing to continuous safety improvement.
- Work to achieve department Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) to assist in achieving organizational goals.
- Embrace, promote and follow Whitewater’s mission statement and values.
- Maintain current knowledge of legal standards pertaining to waivers, equipment, safety regulations, and OHS practices.
- Perform other jobs, duties, tasks and responsibilities as required.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS / EDUCATION:
- High School Diploma Required.
- Valid class 5 driver’s license and clean abstract Required.
- OFA Level 1 Required. OFA Level 3 or equivalent is considered an asset.
- Previous Trail Crew or landscaping experience is an asset.
- Previous Wildfire Suppression experience with valid S-100 certificate an asset.
- Class 4 Driver's License an asset.
- Basic Chainsaw Operating Training as recognized by the BC Forest Safety Council is considered an asset.
- Brush saw, and small equipment operations experience an asset.
- Willingness to enroll in Chainsaw Training and work with a Chainsaw.
SKILLS & ABILITIES:
- Must be in good physical shape, able to undertake constant hard physical work, and able to safely lift heavy objects.
- Willing and prepared to work outdoors, in mountainous terrain, in all weather conditions.
- Treat co-workers and company equipment with the utmost respect.
- Must be capable of working closely together with others in a team environment.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
- Must be dependable, responsible, and motivated, with a strong work ethic.
- Must be able to work in extreme terrain during all weather conditions.
