Job descriptionBachelor’s degree in Education or related field (Master’s preferred). Minimum 3–5 years’ experience in an educational leadership role (e.g., department head, principal, or lead tutor). Experience creating and playing a key role in developing a new educational business is preferred. Proven track record of supervising educators, setting performance standards, and providing feedback. Comfortable with basic budgeting, resource allocation, and general administrative tasks. Experience with event planning, community outreach, or marketing strategies aimed at attracting students. Strong communication skills for presentations at local schools, parent groups, and community events. Familiarity with core 8–12 subjects (Math, English, Science) and / or test prep (IELTS). Ability to demonstrate effective teaching methods and guide tutors in best practices. Familiarity with the BC curriculum is preferred. Strong work ethic. Proactive, organized, and solution-oriented; able to juggle multiple responsibilities. Excellent interpersonal skills to motivate staff, strong teamwork skills, collaboration with key stakeholders, and building relationships with families and community partners. Passion for innovative education, student success, and collaborative learning environments. Competitive Salary : $70,000 – $90,000 CAD based on experience and qualifications. Illuminate Academy is an education center dedicated to igniting curiosity, achieving academic excellence, and fostering growth—both in and out of the classroom. We offer a unique membership-based model combining personalized tutoring, small-group sessions, and interest-based enrichment classes.
Position Overview
We seek a Principal / Head Tutor to lead and oversee our school’s academic and operational growth and success. This individual will manage and mentor our tutors, ensure high-quality educational delivery, and be responsible for expanding the school’s student base. The successful candidate will also collaborate with the administrative and marketing teams regularly.
Key Responsibilities
- Academic Leadership
- Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of tutoring sessions and group classes.
- Oversee curriculum development, ensuring alignment with best practices and student needs.
- Conduct regular training sessions to maintain teaching quality and consistency.
- Recruit, onboard, and supervise tutors.
- Provide ongoing mentorship, conduct performance reviews, and set professional growth goals.
- Organize tutor schedules in conjunction with our membership offerings and add-on sessions.
- Student & Parent Engagement
- Conduct student assessments and tailor educational plans accordingly.
- Coordinate with parents through regular feedback sessions and progress reports.
- Serve as the primary point of contact for escalated academic concerns.
- Student Recruitment
- Collaborate with the administrative team to plan and execute local outreach (schools, community events).
- Identify potential growth opportunities and partnerships with teachers, PACs, schools, and families.
- Lead open house events, workshops, and promotional activities to attract new students and their families.
- Operational Oversight
- Work alongside the admin team to ensure efficient day-to-day operations.
- Manage budgets related to academic programming and resources.
- Help refine scheduling processes, enrollment procedures, and membership management.
