Your Opportunity
The Officer Safety Instructor (Trainer) is a provincial role within the Protective Services (PS) Training and Development Unit and is responsible for providing training to frontline Protective Services members. As part of PS’ evolving responsibilities, the Officer Safety Instructor (Trainer) will also support training initiatives related to the Compassionate Intervention Act (Bill 53). This legislation introduces a legal framework for involuntary treatment of individuals whose substance use poses a significant risk of harm to themselves or others. PS has been tasked with operational support and curriculum development under this mandate, including the transport and safety and security of individuals subject to Compassionate Intervention Orders. The Officer Safety Instructor (Trainer) must have the ability to work independently with minimal guidance, supervision, and direction. There is an extensive travel component to this position as you will be going to various locations around the province. The Officer Safety Instructor (Trainer) acts as a critical resource of knowledge and expertise for the areas of PS Community Peace Officer related training programs, including : CPOIP, recertifications, Officer Safety (OS), The Working Mind, and Tactical Communications. Significant judgment and expertise are exercised by the Officer Safety Instructor in the offering of professional opinions to PS Operations. The Officer Safety Instructor (Trainer) is responsible to stay abreast of current Peace Officer training (content / curriculum, changes in provincial statutes, relevant legal academia, OS related content / curriculum, best practices and AHS Policies and Procedures). The position involves public speaking and teaching both the academic and physical aspects of Peace Officer related training, and various other courses throughout the province.
Description
As a Trainer, you will participate in the development, enhancement and delivery of training for staff in accordance with AHS standards and practices. You will design, develop and deliver training materials that align with the training framework for various AHS applications and processes. Throughout the course development cycle, you will follow relevant standards to ensure a consistent approach for all training courses offered. Course delivery methods can include in-person and online facilitation as well as self‑study online learning modules (e‑learning). You will also provide excellent customer service and end user support to staff impacted by AHS applications and processes.

Required Qualifications

Must be eligible for an appointment as a Community Peace Officer the Province of Alberta. Must have high school diploma or equivalent. Must have valid PARE. Relevant industry experience may be considered in lieu of the formal education requirements. Ability to perform / facilitate low and high intensity physical training sessions. Work well in a team environment. Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills. Effective communicator. Ability to work independently with limited supervision. Class 5 driver's license or non GDL is required. 2‑year minimum instructional experience.
Preferred Qualifications
Solicitor General Control Tactics Instructor certification (CTI). Experience Teaching CPOIP, CSIT, SIT, or any Law Enforcement Induction Related Training.
