Position Overview :

The Technical Safety Continuous Improvement Director is responsible for leading and implementing continuous improvement initiatives across the Technical Safety Organization. This role involves developing and implementing strategies that improve efficiency and enhance safety in all aspects of the Technical Safety Organization. The Continuous Improvement Director will work closely with cross-functional teams to foster the Hitachi Safety First culture and a Right First-Time mindset.

Key Accountabilities :

  • Supports VP Technical Safety and his team in coordinating the implementation of Safety, RAM and Validation improvement initiatives within the Hitachi Rail GTS Canada organization.
  • Supports the integration of Technical Safety processes between GTS and Rail Control.
  • Monitors performance of Safety practices and identifies areas of improvement.
  • Conducts process analysis to identify opportunities for improvement.
  • Creates strategies to improve efficiency.
  • Leads and facilitates continuous improvement projects within the Technical Safety team, ensuring timely and effective execution.
  • Implements innovative solutions (e.g. AI) to enhance efficiency.
  • Develops a mentorship program and supports its implementation to accelerate professional development within the Technical Safety team.
  • Supports the URS Safety Authority and Crisis Management Plan (CMP) taskforce in the role of CMP Manager by managing CMP incident investigations and managing the implementation of all CMP Recommendations approved by the Technical Safety Committee.
  • Utilizes continuous improvement methodologies to conduct Root Cause Analysis and implement process improvements.
  • Manages the Lessons Learned and leverages best practices.
  • Promotes and supports the Hitachi Safety First culture and the Right First Time mindset.

Key Requirements :

  • Bachelor's / Master's Engineering Degree.
  • Previous experience in managing process improvement initiatives, and programs to find efficiencies in processes.
  • Extensive knowledge of the GTS Management System, and corresponding processes is a prerequisite.
  • Working experience with :
  • Safety process / practices
  • Leading transformation / improvement projects
  • CENELEC / AREMA / IEEE standards
  • Quality Management System
  • Project Lifecycle and Deployment
  • Product, Platforms Lifecycle
  • System / SW / HW lifecycle
  • ISO 9001
  • Previous experience with integration of formal Management Systems.
  • Leadership and soft skills :
  • Minimum 15 years in a leadership role.
  • Detail-oriented with a strategic mindset.
  • Excellent problem-solving and decision-making abilities.
  • Strong interpersonal and communications skills.
