School Based Safety Monitor

These positions are casual / on-call for short term assignments.

You must be available at least 3 days per week.

Assignments are in schools located across the TDSB.

  • Monitor the interior and exterior of school for the presence of intruders or activities which would place the safety of students, staff or visitors at risk.
  • Assist school administration, staff and students to uphold the school’s code of conduct including board policies and procedures ie TDSB Caring and Safe Schools Policy.
  • Provide assistance / direction to visitors to the school.
  • Identify trespassers and report to administration.
  • Assist school administration with serious and routine incidents and security matters.
  • Assist school administration and police when serious incidents and security matters arise.
  • Resolve minor disputes between students by encouraging positive communications and working to minimize conflicts.
  • Act as a liaison between students and school administrators.
  • Note : Candidates must be able to spend most of the shift walking / standing through school building and grounds.

Rate of pay :

Supply hourly rate : $18.75

3.4% statutory holiday pay and 4% vacation pay are added to these rates

Temporary hourly rate after 30 days : $25.00

3.8% statutory holiday pay and 4% vacation pay are added to these rates

Rate effective September 1, 2023

Schedule : up to 7 hours per day between 8 : 00 am and 4 : 30 pm

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • Secondary School Diploma
  • Six months related experience working with adolescents in education or community environment
  • Ability to deal with difficult situations and to take appropriate action in stressful or emergency situations according to Board policies and procedures
  • Familiarity with Secondary School operations and adolescent development
  • Current First Aid, CPR, and other relevant certifications (e.g. UMAB, CPI) are assets
