Job description

Advanced Care Paramedic (ACP) – Air Medical Crew (AMC)

Employment Type
Full-Time | Rotational Schedule (2 weeks on / 2 weeks off)
Role Overview
The Advanced Care Paramedic (ACP) is a critical member of an Air Medical Crew (AMC), delivering advanced prehospital and critical care during aeromedical transport missions. This role is transport-focused and operational in nature, providing high-acuity care to patients of all ages during community-to-facility and interfacility transfers.
Working alongside other AMC clinicians (Registered Nurses or Respiratory Therapists) and supported by 24/7 Online Medical Control (OLMC) physicians, the ACP practices with a high degree of clinical autonomy within established medical directives and transport medicine best practices.
This position is best suited to ACPs who thrive in dynamic, autonomous, high-acuity environments and are comfortable operating in remote, resource-limited, and weather-challenged regions.

Key Responsibilities
Clinical Care & Transport

  • Provide advanced assessment, stabilization, treatment, and continuous monitoring of critically ill or injured patients during aeromedical transport
  • Deliver care across the lifespan, including adult, pediatric, and neonatal populations
  • Perform rapid clinical decision-making in high-pressure, time-sensitive scenarios
  • Operate within scope of practice while consulting with OLMC physicians as required

Team & Operational Duties

  • Function as part of a multidisciplinary Air Medical Crew (ACP + RN or RRT)
  • Adapt to varying team configurations based on patient acuity and mission requirements
  • Operate across fixed-wing and rotary-wing aircraft equipped to ICU-level standards
  • Support safe loading, unloading, and in-flight patient management

Clinical Leadership & Handover

  • Provide clinical leadership during patient handovers at sending and receiving facilities
  • Act as a liaison between referring healthcare providers and receiving care teams
  • Support and guide rural and remote healthcare staff during transport-related interactions

Quality, Safety & Readiness

  • Maintain clinical equipment, aircraft medical interiors, and transport readiness
  • Participate in quality assurance initiatives, including chart audits and case reviews
  • Adhere to all safety, operational, and clinical governance standards

Work Environment

  • Aircraft-based clinical care is the primary work setting
  • Deployment is system-driven and based on patient acuity, weather, and operational demand
  • Base assignment does not limit geographic service area
  • Extended transport times, variable call volumes, and 24/7 readiness are expected during rotations

Schedule

  • Full-time rotational model: 2 weeks on / 2 weeks off
  • During on-rotation: continuous operational availability

Qualifications & Requirements
Required

  • Minimum 2 years of experience as an Advanced Care Paramedic (ACP)
  • Active ACP registration in good standing in home province/territory
  • Ability to obtain and maintain registration with the College of Paramedics of Manitoba (CPMB)
  • Current certifications:
    • BLS
    • ACLS

Assets (Preferred)

  • Experience in aeromedical or medical transport environments
  • PALS
  • NRP
  • Trauma certification (PHTLS or ITLS)
  • Indigenous cultural awareness training

Compensation & Benefits (Approximate Annual Value)
Compensation

  • Base Salary: $98,000 – $123,500 (experience dependent)
  • Additional annual earnings:
    • Per diem and paid travel days: ~$20,000 – $30,000
    • Vacation and statutory holiday pay: ~$9,000 – $12,000

Benefits

  • Extended health, dental, and vision coverage
  • Short- and long-term disability
  • Life and travel health insurance
  • RRSP matching / pension program
  • Employee share purchase program

Travel, Housing & Licensing Support

  • All commercial travel to and from rotation locations arranged and paid
  • Company-provided accommodations during rotations
  • Airline and hotel loyalty points retained by the employee
  • Annual reimbursement of professional licensing fees

Training & Professional Development

  • Access to a dedicated medical simulation and training facility
  • Annual recurrent training and skills refreshers
  • Strong mentorship and clinical governance framework
  • Emphasis on continuous learning and transport medicine excellence

Ideal Candidate Profile
This role is well suited to ACPs who:

  • Excel in high-acuity, autonomous clinical environments
  • Are adaptable, resilient, and operationally flexible
  • Value teamwork within high-performance multidisciplinary crews
  • Are comfortable with rotational work in remote and northern regions
  • Demonstrate respect for Indigenous and underserved communities
