Salary : $55,000 - $65,000 Annually (To commensurate with experience and consistent with UHN compensation policy)

Position Summary
The successful candidate will join a vibrant multi-disciplinary academic research group consisting of biochemists, structure biologists, cell biologists, and computational and medicinal chemists. In collaboration with a multi-disciplinary team at the Structural Genomics Consortium (SGC) at the University of Toronto to develop chemical probes for novel targets of interest. This project is part of the Acceleration Consortium's ‘self-driving lab’ (SDL) research to accelerate materials and drug discovery assisted by AI and automation. The position will involve helping to build a ‘hit to lead’ SDL using parallel high throughput synthesis of novel small molecules that will be tested in automated high throughput biological / biophysical assays of the target protein conducted within the Structural Genomics Consortium and guided by AI and automation specialists in the Acceleration Consortium.
Duties
- Work in collaboration with the team to develop chemical probes and drug candidates
- Synthesize compounds using automated instruments and manually to improve the profiles of the compounds
- Characterize synthesized compounds using a variety of techniques, such as HPLC / MS, NMR etc.
- Design synthetic routes for the compounds of interest
- Familiarize with automated instruments and utilize them for making a library of compounds
- Familiarize with the relevant literature
- Record and document all the experiments clearly
- Summarize the results in the reports and present to internal and external meetings
- Maintain a safe lab environment according to established health and safety protocols
