The McGill University Department of Medicine in the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences and the Division of Endocrinology and Metabolism invites applications for a full-time clinician-scientist position as a member of the Contract Academic Staff at the rank of Assistant Professor (Clinical) based at the McGill University Health Centre (MUHC). This is a Contract Academic Staff position and does not confer eligibility for tenure.

The Department of Medicine is a leader in academic medicine. Our educational and research missions support excellent and innovative clinical programs across our teaching hospitals. The McGill University Health Centre is one of McGill’s major teaching hospitals affiliated with the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences at Canada’s internationally renowned McGill University, located in the vibrant and multicultural city of Montreal, in the province of Quebec.

Job Duties

The successful candidate will be appointed to clinical practice in the Department of Medicine, Division of Endocrinology and Metabolism at the McGill University Health Centre (MUHC). The incumbent will have expertise and experience in endocrinology / metabolism research to establish or continue an internationally recognized independent research program. While all areas of Endocrinology research are eligible, preference will be given to research in the area of Public Health that may include population health, epidemiology, health economics, and health policy, in particular, related to common Endocrine diseases such as diabetes / obesity, osteoporosis, thyroid disease and / or endocrine cancers.

As a Clinician-Scientist, the candidate will be expected to develop and maintain an independent and productive research program. The research program is expected to attract external peer-reviewed funding (e.g. Canadian Institutes of Health Research and the Fonds de Recherche Québec—Santé). Internal startup funding, including a research stipend for protected research time and operating funds, may be available on a competitive basis to a suitable candidate.

The successful candidate will be expected to collaborate with investigators in the Research Institute of the McGill University Health Centre (RI-MUHC), in particular with colleagues in the MeDiC (Metabolic Disorders and Complications) Program.

The incumbent will also be expected to contribute to the clinical activities of the Division of Endocrinology and Metabolism, which includes ambulatory clinics, Endocrinology Consult Service, teaching of medical trainees, medical students, postgraduate medical residents, and endocrine residents, in both formal classroom and clinical settings. They will also be expected to contribute to, and participate in, committees and administrative activities of the Division of Endocrinology, and of the relevant Research Institute Program of the appointment.

The successful candidate will also be expected to be actively involved in all aspects of McGill’s academic mission (i.e., research, teaching, supervision of students and residents, and involvement in academic and administrative committees).

Faculty members are expected to contribute to service activities within their units, the University, and the wider scholarly community. A demonstrated commitment to equity, diversity, and inclusion is also expected.
