Safety first – it is more than a slogan to you, it is a passion. You are driven to achieve safety excellence and thrive on supporting teams to reach this goal. You have a solid understanding of the regulations, and a knack for translating them to understandable and relatable messaging for team members. You are a communicator, building strong connections and trust with your co-workers, and fostering two-way communication on all safety topics. Your experience in the engineering or construction industry gives you an excellent understanding of the hazards encountered by our staff, and the best practices, training, and mitigation / elimination steps needed to face them. Your strong organizational skills guide the implementation of new policies and procedures, while ensuring that the team’s safety efforts are properly documented. You are ready for a career move to a thriving multi-disciplinary consulting firm, that is repeatedly recognized as a top employer.
Binnie has an exciting opportunity for a Corporate Safety Officer to join our head office near scenic Deer Lake in Burnaby with an option for a hybrid work arrangement. You will report to our Chief Operations Officer (COO) and you will be responsible for monitoring the continual improvement of Binnie’s safety program to ensure its effectiveness and compliance with provincial authorities. You will champion a safety-first culture, informing staff and managers on pertinent safety issues and legislative compliance requirements.
Your Role
- Leading our Joint Health and Safety Committee and maintaining records to ensure compliance with company policies and OHS regulations
- Developing communications and activities to maintain a high level of staff engagement and success for the safety program
- Overseeing safety training for all our staff, including orientations for new and young workers
- Providing guidance to managers for project-specific safety needs, including field work and construction, and projects where Binnie is designated as Prime Contractor
- Planning and conducting company-wide safety meetings and supporting effective Health and Safety Committees in satellite offices
- Leading incident and near miss investigation, reporting and follow up actions
- Reviewing job site safety compliance inspections
- Maintaining and updating safety records for all employees, in coordination with Human Resources
- Maintaining Binnie’s COR certification in AB and BC
- Working with others in a manner consistent with Binnie’s corporate values, including collaboration and respect
