Are you ready to help create a healthier and safer tomorrow for Ontario’s Public Sector Community?

Public Services Health and Safety Association (PSHSA) is seeking experienced and dedicated leaders to join our Board of Directors. We’re looking for individuals with senior leadership experience in the public, private, or non-profit sector and expertise in one or more of the following areas :

  • Public Relations / Communications
  • Government Relations
  • Artificial Intelligence

While these areas of expertise are highly valued, all candidates with relevant leadership experience and a passion for health, safety, and wellbeing are encouraged to apply.

Application details can be found below.  The deadline for all applications is Friday, February 14, 2025.

About PSHSA

Public Services Health and Safety Association (PSHSA) is a transfer payment recipient of the Ontario Ministry of Labour, Immigration, Training and Skills Development and is responsible for the delivery of health and safety programs, services and solutions to Ontario’s public and broader public services. As one of four health and safety associations, operating under the Health & Safety Ontario banner, PSHSA is a trusted advisor to public sector organizations, large and small, seeking to reduce and eliminate work related injuries, occupational illnesses and fatalities.

Located across the province, our consulting teams provide prevention and safety advice, information and training based on leading practices and ongoing research. Together they serve more than 10,000 organizations and 1.7 million workers in the community and healthcare, municipal and public safety, education and culture sectors, aboriginal communities, and provincial government.

Working with system partners, employers and workers, PSHSA’s vision is driven by one simple but compelling idea : Enable a healthier and safer tomorrow for Ontario’s Public Sector Community. We have made great strides, and each year there are fewer lost time injuries, and fatalities in Ontario’s workplaces – but we’re working to eliminate them completely.

You are invited to visit our website at for more information about our organization and our mission.

Role of the Board

The PSHSA Board of Directors is a group of welcoming, dedicated, and community-minded individuals who want to make a difference and help guide PSHSA as a leader in workplace health & safety solutions. The Board consists of 12 knowledgeable and experienced individuals with a history of leadership and commitment to the promotion of workplace health, safety and wellbeing. It is a competency-based Board with representatives from across Ontario that reflect the diversity of the sectors that PSHSA serves. Collectively, the PSHSA Board is responsible for ensuring that the organization’s mandate is carried out effectively and efficiently on behalf of all Ontarians through shaping our strategic direction, providing financial oversight, and supporting effective decision-making and risk management. The PSHSA Board of Directors strives to remain focused at a strategic level and follow the principles of good governance.

Candidate Profile

This is an exciting volunteer opportunity for business and community leaders who are passionate about having a positive impact on the occupational health and safety system across Ontario now, and for years to come. As a new Board Member, you will work with a dedicated and extremely capable Board and Management Team to ensure impact, outcomes, and to reduce injuries and accidents in Ontario workplaces.

The ideal candidate(s) will have demonstrated senior leadership in the public, private or non-profit sector and expertise in one or more of the following areas :

  • Public Relations / Communications
  • Government Relations
  • Artificial Intelligence
  • While these areas of expertise are highly valued, all candidates with relevant leadership experience and a passion for health, safety, and wellbeing are encouraged to apply.

It is important to PSHSA that our Board reflects the communities we serve. The Board’s goal is to increase diversity and inclusive representation on the Board while ensuring the required mix of knowledge, skills and experience are fulfilled to ensure a continued strong corporate governance model.

PSHSA is committed to equity and diversity and welcomes applications from equity-denied groups, including Indigenous Peoples, racialized people, women, persons with disabilities, and 2SLGBTQIA+ persons. We strive to provide a safe, healthy and inclusive environment that inspires respect. Upon individual request, we will endeavor to remove any barrier to the recruitment process to reasonably accommodate candidates.

    Commitments

PSHSA’s Board Members are appointed to serve a three (3)-year term with the possibility of renewal for an additional term, for a maximum term length of six (6) years. The Board meets four (4) times a year, which includes an annual retreat and our Annual General Meeting (AGM), with additional meetings if required. Board meetings are usually held in-person at PSHSA’s Head Office in North York, although virtual attendance is permitted with the permission of the Chair.

Additionally, each Board Member serves on a Board Committee (Governance & Human Resources Committee or Audit, Finance & Risk Committee). Committees meet three (3) times a year, with all Committee meetings being held virtually.

Board Members receive reimbursement for all reasonable travel and business expenses related to the attendance of Board and Committee meetings, in accordance with PSHSA’s established policies.
