About the Position
Under the direction of the Supervisor of Aquatics and Recreation Programs, the Recreation Programmer is responsible for developing, coordinating, and implementing recreational programs with a focus on team management and problem-solving. The role demands a creative and adaptable individual who can oversee large groups, adjust to changing circumstances, and use available resources to ensure the success of the programs. The Recreation Programmer will contribute to community engagement, staff leadership, and seamless program delivery.
Co-op Term: 4-month term, May to August
Duties & Responsibilities
Create and implement recreational programs that are dynamic, inclusive and engaging for all age groups and community needs. Supervise and collaborate with a large team, including Recreation and Culture Ambassadors, Senior Recreation and Culture Ambassadors, Lifeguards, Swim Instructors, and Senior Lifeguards. Effectively manage multiple staff members, ensuring they are supported, motivated, and equipped to deliver high-quality programs. Navigate day-to-day challenges and unexpected changes with a flexible, solutions-focused approach. Encourage participants and staff to provide feedback and insights on recreation programs. Manage participant records and program documentation, ensuring compliance with departmental guidelines. Oversee the professional development of staff by organizing training sessions, fostering an inclusive and positive work environment, and helping staff grow in their roles. Promote program participation by building strong relationships with community members, responding to their needs, and creating an accessible, supportive environment. Other duties as assigned.
What you need to Succeed...
Enrolled in post-secondary studies in Recreation and Leisure Studies, Sports Management or similar field. Must be able to work flexible hours including early mornings, nights and weekends as required. Strong organizational, multitasking and time management skills. Excellent communication, interpersonal, and customer service abilities. Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and basic graphic design tools. Knowledge or interest in recreational programming trends and community engagement. Current Standard First Aid with CPR-C Certificate. HIGH FIVE: Principles of Healthy Child Development. Valid Class “G” driver’s license, with a clean driving record and access to a vehicle.
Salary and Benefit Information
$21.48/hour (2026 rate) plus OMERS pension is available
