Job description

Position Overview

Under the direction of the CNO, the Director Health Services leads inter-disciplinary team(s) consisting of staff who provide support or direct care to patients/residents/clients. This position is responsible for the effective and efficient operation and administration of the Emergency Program and ensuring the safe delivery of health services.

  • Ensures program activities are performed in accordance with Mission, Vision and Values of the hospital and the WRHA.
  • Inspires and leads health services staff across the organization to embrace and adopt integrated, patient/resident/client-centered care pathways and service delivery models.
  • Accountable to ensure the provision of service-delivery focused operational leadership in a fiscally responsible manner, partnering closely with leadership, internal and external stakeholders to support patients/residents/clients in accessing culturally safe and respectful health services.
  • Monitors and evaluates key performance indicators and collaborates with stakeholders to ensure safe, effective and appropriate client care through the clinical quality framework and patient/resident/client care lens that will shape an environment for clinical and service excellence.

Experience

  • Five (5) years of progressively responsible management and leadership experience within nursing and healthcare administration.
  • Experience in Acute Care services required.
  • Experience in human resource management, financial management and quality improvement required.
  • Experience in community health or social services preferred.
  • Extensive experience in service delivery and business operations.
  • Ability to lead and participate in both short- and long-term planning.

Education (Degree/Diploma/Certificate)

  • Preparation at the Masters level.
  • Consideration may be given to an experienced candidate who will acquire an agreed to graduate degree within a given timeframe.
  • Post-secondary degree in a relevant health discipline from an accredited education institution; a post-graduate degree is an asset.
  • An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.

Certification/Licensure/Registration

  • Current Registration with the professional college associated with the discipline.

Qualifications and Skills

  • Demonstrated comprehensive leadership capabilities. The provincial health system in Manitoba has adopted the .
  • Knowledge of: Relevant professional regulatory requirements including standards and scope of practice for direct reports. Relevant legislated acts including but not limited to Personal Health Information Act, Protection of Persons in Care Act, Mental Health Act, Workplace Health & Safety Act, Workplace Hazardous Material Information System (WHMIS), Principles of Routine Practices (Universal Precautions). Relevant Collective Agreements. Working with individuals from diverse cultural, social and ethnic backgrounds. Regional/site/unit policies, procedures, protocols and guidelines relating to: clinical care, administrative, financial, and human resource management.

Physical Requirements

  • Must be able to work safely in a typical computerized office environment with frequent meetings, and to lift and carry items of up to approximately 10 kg (25 lbs.).
  • Incumbent demonstrates ability to prioritize work, deal with interruptions, re-prioritize as required and ensure dedicated/focused time for strategic planning.
