Job Title: Process / Applications Engineer

Company Overview
Our customer is a design-and-build manufacturer that delivers complete, turnkey systems for water, wastewater, and chemical processing applications worldwide. Established in 1992, they support both developed and developing regions by designing and building potable and process water solutions, as well as sewage and wastewater treatment plants—often in locations where infrastructure is limited or nonexistent. They combine engineering, fabrication, and project execution with a strong commitment to ongoing research and product development. With more than 2,000 installations globally, their solutions are built for reliable operation with minimal operator involvement and can be monitored and controlled using advanced automation technologies such as PLCs, SCADA, equipment networking, and integrated control systems.

Position Summary
This is a leadership-track role within the Process/Applications Engineering team based in Burlington, Ontario. The Process/Applications Engineer will support the planning, design, and execution of projects involving water and wastewater treatment systems and chemical dosing solutions. Working closely with Project Managers, this role is part of a collaborative group of engineers and technicians focused on delivering efficient, compliant, and dependable systems. After an onboarding period, the individual will step into a lead role within the department, taking responsibility for review, delegation, validation, and oversight of process design work across the team.

Key Responsibilities
This position includes the following duties and expectations:

• Review, validate, and approve incoming RFQs and RFPs
• Assign, coordinate, and distribute workload across the process/applications engineering team
• Develop proposals, quotations, pricing, cost estimates, and supporting technical documentation
• Assist with procurement support, tendering activities, supplier selection, and contractor qualification
• Interpret customer requirements and ensure designs align to specifications and expectations
• Act as the primary technical/process resource supporting the Project Manager through execution
• Design and engineer water/wastewater treatment systems and chemical dosing solutions, including equipment selection, sizing, calculations, and hydraulic modeling
• Create process design deliverables such as schematics, PFDs, and P&IDs to ensure system intent and performance requirements are met
• Engage with clients, regulators, and other stakeholders to support environmental compliance, permitting needs, and regulatory requirements
• Stay informed on evolving technology, innovations, and best practices across water and wastewater treatment
• Maintain complete and organized project records including design files, reports, drawings, specifications, and technical packages
• Evaluate and interpret varying water and wastewater chemistry profiles and recommend optimized treatment strategies based on the application
• Support or design solutions involving SBRs, ultrafiltration (UF), reverse osmosis (RO), nanofiltration (NF), and membrane bioreactors (MBRs)
• Produce design briefs, control narratives, and operation/maintenance manuals for treatment facilities
• Develop commissioning plans, QA checklists, startup procedures, and validation documentation to support successful system deployment

Required Qualifications
The ideal candidate will demonstrate the following:

• Bachelor’s degree in Civil, Environmental, or Chemical Engineering with 3–5 years of water/wastewater engineering experience (or an engineering diploma with additional applicable experience)
• Strong technical knowledge of water and wastewater treatment processes across physical, chemical, and biological systems
• Ability to lead, guide, and support others with accuracy and professionalism
• Strong analytical thinking and problem-solving skills, including the ability to troubleshoot complex technical challenges
• Excellent communication and relationship-building skills for working with customers, internal teams, and external stakeholders
• High attention to detail and accuracy, especially in calculations, estimating, and technical documentation
• Ability to manage changing priorities and succeed in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment
• Strong organization skills and consistent habits for maintaining structured project documentation
• Commitment to continued learning and professional growth within the water/wastewater engineering field
• Strong verbal and written communication skills
• Ability to work independently while also contributing effectively within a team
• Safety-minded attitude with a strong commitment to workplace health and safety expectations
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office, including Word, Access, and Excel
• Valid “G” driver’s license
