This employment opportunity is restricted to Nunavut Inuit who reside in Iqaluit only.

Reporting to the Manager, Community Wellness Programs, the main role of the Junior Wellness Programs Officer (JWPO) is to contribute to the success of the community-based health programs and other special projects as required by supporting in the planning, development and delivery of projects undertaken by the section. The JWPO also supports the effective operation of the Programs by providing logistical and program support to the Manager and other members within the Community Wellness Programs.

The Junior Wellness Program Officer acts independently in completing tasks and will collaborate with territorial, regional, and community program personnel to ensure consistency and compliance with approved and established approaches to program applications and reporting requirements. The JWPO will assist the development, implementation, delivery and monitoring or projects undertaken by the section by maintaining security and confidentiality of information and maintaining the financial tracking systems, i.e., for contribution agreements, carry-forward or enhancement funding and amendments. The position will also deal directly with regional and community staff members such as the Regional Wellness Program Coordinators (RWPC) to facilitate the contacting process and prepare community budget templates and assisting the RWPCs and Community Wellness Coordinators with budgets.

The knowledge, skills, and abilities required for this job are usually obtained through a recognized High School Diploma along with two (2) years of program administrative experience preferably in an office setting.

The Official Languages of Nunavut are Inuktut, English and French. Applicants may submit their resume in any of the official languages of Nunavut. Fluency in more than one of Nunavut’s official languages would be considered an asset. Knowledge of Inuit communities, culture, land, Inuit Qaujimajatuqangit, Inuktut and experience working in a northern cross-cultural environment are also considered assets.

An eligibility list may be created to fill future vacancies.
