Job descriptionWork Term : Permanent Work Language : English Hours : 35 hours per week Education : College, CEGEP or other non-university certificate or diploma from a program of 1 year to 2 years Experience : 7 months to less than 1 year
Work setting
- Nursing home / home for the aged
- Administer medications
- Apply aseptic techniques including sterile dressing
- Conduct specimen collection
- Ensure infection control
- Monitor nutritional intake
- Observe and record medication's therapeutic and side effects
- Record medication's therapeutic and side effects observations in patient files
- Take vital signs
- Provide technical assistance to surgeons by laying out instruments, setting up equipment, assisting surgical teams with gowns and gloves and passing instruments to surgeons
- Provide pre-operative and post-operative personal and comfort care
- Monitor established respiratory therapy and intravenous therapy
- Provide safety and health education to individuals and their families
- Provide nursing services, within defined scope of practice, to patients based on patient assessment and care planning procedures
- Monitor patients' progress, evaluate effectiveness of nursing interventions and consult with appropriate members of healthcare team
- Eligible for licensure as a practical nurse by the province / territory of work
- Completion of the Canadian Practical Nurse Registration Examination
