Role Purpose

  • The Manager, Corporate Affairs & Policy supports AstraZeneca’s external engagement and policy agenda across assigned therapeutic areas and markets.
  • This role develops and executes communication and GA strategies, monitors and interprets complex regulatory and public policy developments, and provides expert guidance to brand teams and cross-functional stakeholders to ensure compliant, effective external affairs activities.

Key Responsibilities

  • Policy and Regulatory Intelligence: Track, analyze, and interpret changes in laws, regulations, reimbursement frameworks, and public policy; translate implications for brand teams and internal stakeholders.
  • Strategy Development and Execution: Support the design and delivery of GA and communication strategies that align with brand and corporate objectives at local, national, and regional levels.
  • External Engagement: Build and maintain relationships with government officials, regulators, industry associations, NGOs/charities, and community organizations; coordinate interactions with lobbyists where appropriate and compliant.
  • Regulatory Submissions Support: Oversee or coordinate selected regulatory submission processes related to assigned products/brands in collaboration with Regulatory Affairs and cross-functional teams.
  • Issues and Stakeholder Management: Contribute to multi-project external affairs and communication initiatives to convey key corporate messages to internal and external stakeholders.
  • Measurement and Learning: Develop processes to collect evidence and feedback on past submissions, advocacy, and communication programs; ensure learnings are disseminated and inform future plans.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Partner with Sales, Market Access, Medical, Regulatory, and Corporate Affairs teams to align external affairs activities with brand strategy; provide timely briefings on external environment changes.
  • Network Building: Leverage internal and external networks to share policy and regulatory insights and propagate best practices across the organization.
  • Vendor and Budget Coordination: Coordinate external vendors and service providers; may manage budgets for assigned projects.
  • Data and Relationship Management: Maintain information systems and stakeholder databases to sustain relationships with diverse social groups and charities.
  • Project Leadership: Lead or contribute to small project teams to design or refine communication or advocacy campaigns; ensure effective external affairs capability within the remit.

Skills

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Public Policy, Political Science, International Relations, Public Affairs, or a related field.
  • Experience: Minimum 5 years of relevant experience in communications, government affairs, public policy, or external affairs; substantial experience within the pharmaceutical or healthcare industry strongly preferred.
  • Expertise: Demonstrated proficiency in at least one area of internal or external communications and one area of government/external affairs; experience managing or supporting regulatory submissions is an advantage.
  • Stakeholder Engagement: Proven ability to build and sustain relationships with government/regulatory authorities, industry bodies, NGOs, and community organizations.
  • Digital Fluency: Understanding of new media channels and social networks; ability to integrate digital platforms into communication and advocacy strategies.
  • Project management and communication: Demonstrated ability to lead projects end-to-end (planning, prioritization, stakeholder alignment, risk/issue management) and to develop clear, coherent presentations that synthesize complex issues into actionable insights, with concise summaries of decisions, owners, and next steps.
  • Team/People Experience: Prior experience managing the performance of communications professionals or leading cross-functional project teams (role is manager-level but not a formal team leader).
  • Industry Knowledge: Solid understanding of pharmaceutical compliance requirements, market access dynamics, and policy-making processes.
  • Communication Skills: Excellent written and verbal communication, with the ability to brief senior stakeholders and translate complex policy into actionable recommendations.
  • Language: Korean and English proficiency
