Description
Located at Inter Pipeline’s Heartland Petrochemical Complex (HPC) northeast of Fort Saskatchewan, the individual in the Process Engineering Student role will report to Staff Process Engineer – Heartland. As a key member of the Heartland team, the Process Engineering Student will perform process engineering tasks while gaining valuable experience at a modern petrochemical facility. The HPC facility is a world-scale integrated complex comprised of North America’s only single site propane dehydrogenation (PDH) plant and polypropylene (PP) plant with a co-generation central utilities block (CUB). Inter Pipeline commissioned the HPC in 2022 and started commercial production early in 2023. The HPC is Canada’s only PP production operation and one of the newest in the industry to produce versatile, durable, recyclable PP.
Key Duties and Responsibilities :
- Plant Performance Monitoring and Optimization – Heat exchanger performance studies and plant performance analysis.
- Operations Engineering Support – Process troubleshooting, field surveys and P&ID walkdowns.
- Process Engineering Evaluation and Design for Projects – HYSYS process simulation, equipment sizing and hydraulic modelling.
- Process Safety Management – Risk assessments, monitoring Key Performance Indicators and preparing for HAZOP re-validations.
- Potential for other activities, such as opportunity evaluations, MOC development, and PI Vision trend and report development.
