Your Opportunity
The Patient Care Manager (PCM) plays a key leadership role in patient care service and reports directly to the Executive Director, Alberta Kidney Care - North. This position is responsible for providing the direction, leadership, and the organization of activities of patient care services and administrative operations in support of the vision, mission and business plan of Alberta Health Services and Alberta Kidney Care -North (AKC-N). The position is also accountable for making key decisions and having direct leadership responsibility for establishing and contributing to the achievement of the goals of AKC-N. The PCM will develop and maintain strong working relationships with key partners in order to provide leadership to the patient care service. The PCM is also responsible for the development and maintenance of an effective framework for the operations of the patient care service to facilitate the delivery of efficient, effective and safe quality patient care.
Description
As a member of the Alberta Kidney Care – North (AKC-N) leadership team, the Patient Care Manager (PCM) is involved in the strategic formulation, development and administration of policy and programs to support patient-focused care and delivery within the program. Takes a lead / visionary role in developing strategies and determining priorities for the business plan, taking into consideration both long and short-term operational needs of the organization / zone. Participates and leads teams in quality, research, and innovative initiatives. Identifies key challenges and opportunities to support the development of innovative approaches that enable the achievement of the vision and long-term goals. The PCM ensures the strategic use of human resources in providing the most effective and efficient delivery of patient care across the care continuum, especially as it relates directly to kidney care. Assesses, develops and implements care service delivery teams in collaboration with the Executive Director, industry standards, staff and key partners (internal / external) to optimize utilization of resources and achieve identified results. Creates team performance objectives that are aligned with patient care service goals. Initiates, implements and supports new or modified approaches, practices and processes in the organization by recognizing the need for change. Collaborates with dyad partners for the delivery of patient care services. Solves problems strategically by involving and informing key stakeholders, identifying options and negotiating resolution. Reports / responds to safety incidents, complex patient / family issues, deviations on approved activity / budget levels, changes in resource requirements and deviations from normal personnel & operating issues.

Required Qualifications
- Registration with professional association / college is required.
- Degree in applicable field required.
- Minimum of 5 years of front-line experience with demonstrated informal leadership competencies (e.g., participation on committees / projects, leading peers, consulting to management, conducting education, sitting on external boards, involvement with professional association etc.).
- Previous management experience in a progressive environment is required.
- Financial acumen and decision‑making experience are required.

Preferred Qualifications
Master’s degree in health services discipline, i.e. Social Work, Occupational Therapy, and Nursing preferred. Equivalencies may be considered. Preference given to experience in renal care and or project planning within a provincial program. Location : This position is negotiable within an existing AKCN unit. Portfolio within AKCN may be adjusted depending on Program needs.
