To learn more about the company including a locations map, visit us at: https://www.stella-jones.com/en/inside-stella-jones Position Overview: The Plant Manager at Stella-Jones in Shelburne is responsible for managing daily plant operation functions in a safe manner to ensure production schedules and requirements are achieved on a quality, timely and cost-effective basis. This leader ensures compliance with government regulations pertaining to environmental controls, hazardous waste management and safety. This position is open due to internal movement within the company. Production/Operations: - Oversees plant H&S program and is responsible for effectively using the SHIELD program to manage safe operations throughout the plant - Manages operations through receiving, production activities, maintenance, quality control and expedition - Manages operations schedule and production with sales department, shipping department and supervisors - Maximizes utilization of materials, productivity of the labor force and quality of products by establishing operating procedures and controls that effectively and efficiently utilizes personnel, materials, equipment and capital machinery - Manages chemical and product inventories to meet customers’ expectations - Inventory control: actively organizes, monitors and participates in cycle and annual inventory counts - Manages maintenance program to keep the plant safe and operational - Monthly and quarterly updating of budget/forecast numbers - Prepares yearly budget for Manufacturing cost and Mobile equipment - Reviews thoroughly plant operation cost and capital expenditures on a regular basis to meet budget - Coordinates annual capital expenditures project - Supervises facility improvements projects and promotes potential projects/improvements to increase production efficiencies - Available for on-call emergencies Environment, Health & Safety and TRD Programs: - Manages, maintains and enforces the health & safety program - Manages, maintains and enforces the TRD program and yearly certification - Provides leadership and guidance on occupational health and safety programs - Trains and develops employees on safety process and procedures, and cross functional development - Actively participates in the health and safety committee - Deals with Ministry of Labor on different issues - Oversees the Environment program and monitoring for the plant - Manages communications with environmental (local, provincial and Canadian) authorities - Ensures environmental reporting is done on time Labour Management: - Manage all supervisors and other direct reports - Manage payroll transactions through Ceridian system - Handle employee relations and performance management - Handle new hires, training and job posting - Responsible for enforcing plant guidelines - Manage supervisors and employee vacation schedule - Deals with Ministry of Labor on different issues/requests - Performs other duties as assigned Qualifications: - Ten or more years of work experience in the manufacturing industry required - Three or more years of manufacturing plant leadership experience (in roles such as Plant Manager, Production Manager, Production Supervisor) required; Five or more years preferred - Experience in wood products manufacturing or a similar industrial manufacturing environment preferred - Bachelor’s degree preferred - Knowledge of health and safety standards (ON) Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: - Knowledge and practical experience of lean manufacturing methods - Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. - Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form. - Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety and environmental policies and procedures, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. - Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. - Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization. - Proficient in Microsoft Office and SAP (or other ERP systems) As a Stella-Jones employee, you will enjoy access to excellent benefits and incentives, including: - Extended health and dental coverage - Life insurance and accidental death & dismemberment (AD&D) - Short-Term and Long-Term disability coverage - Competitive compensation - Annual Profit Share Program - Retirement program (RRSP) with generous Company match (150% of employee's 4% contribution) - Company Share Purchase Program with 25% Company contribution match - Career advancement opportunities Stella-Jones is an equal opportunity employer that is committed to diversity and inclusion in the workplace.
