Unit Summary
The WLMH ICU is a 4 bed open level 2 small community intensive care area supporting the full service small community hospital. The ICU provides level 2 support to the cardiac, obstetrical and medical and surgical patient populations utilizing a multidisciplinary collaborative community hospital approach to patient care. The unit is supported with a critical link to Juravinski Critical care to coordinate those patients needing transfer to a higher level of care.
Position Summary
As a member of the health care team, the Registered Nurse provides assessment, evaluation and implementation of care plans to acutely ill patient population according to the job description and standards of practice for a Registered Nurse in the Intensive Care Unit.Schedule Work Hours
days, evenings, nights, weekends and holidays
This position is temporary until November 2026.
Qualifications
1. Current Certificate of Registration with the College of Nursing of Ontario as a Registered Nurse
2. Current Basic Cardiac Life Support certification (B.C.L.S.)
3. Demonstrated current knowledge of physical assessment and clinical decision making
4. Demonstrated current knowledge and experience caring for critically ill or injured patients
5. Current experience in pressure monitoring, airway management and mechanical ventilators
6. Demonstrated current knowledge of cardiac and respiratory arrest procedures
7. Proficient in insertion of intravenous lines
8. Must be able to start IVs and be certified in defibrillation and maintain certification
9. Demonstrated proficiency in working with patients, families, peers and multidisciplinary healthcare teams in an effective, professional, caring manner
10. Demonstrated excellent problem-solving and communication skills, both written and verbal
11. Demonstrated leadership ability and organizational skills, ongoing professional development
12. Ability to perform well in high stress situations
13. Successful completion of recognized intensive care related courses
14. Critical Care Certificate and Advanced Cardiac Life Support (A.C.L.S.) preferred
