Overview
Join to apply for the Occupational Therapist role at Extendicare. Reporting to the Director of Care, the Occupational Therapist is responsible for the assessment of function and adaptive behaviour and the treatment and prevention of disorders which affect function or adaptive behaviour in order to develop, maintain, rehabilitate, or augment function of adaptive behaviour in the areas of self-care, productivity and leisure. This position is full-time and requires the appropriate education, credentials and experience.
Key Responsibilities
- Oversees and participates in the provision of quality occupational therapy in the delivery of Resident care.
- Assessment — Assesses Residents upon admission and on an ongoing basis and assists in developing treatment care plans.
- Planning — Assists with identification of treatment plan and goals and communicates these to other members of the Occupational Therapy Department and the interdisciplinary care team.
- Implementation of Treatment Plan — Ensures Residents are involved in identified therapeutic programs, which meet specified goals; provides relevant information for Resident Care Conferences and Therapy Rounds.
- Evaluation — Ensures ongoing analysis of Resident progress toward identified goals.
- Documentation — Documents pertinent information related to the delivery of Occupational Therapy services.
- Interventions — Implements Occupational Therapy interventions to promote, maintain and restore health, prevent disease and injury, and provide Resident comfort.
- Compliance — Ensures practice is conducted in accordance with the Code of Ethics of the Canadian Association of Occupational Therapists and all provincial regulatory bodies; complies with licensure, legislation, scope of practice, and company policies and procedures.
- Quality and safety — Maintains safe and ethical care, identifies safety hazards, and participates in problem resolution.
- Professional development — Maintains competence, pursues professional development and continuing education, and fosters effective collegial relationships.
- Resident-centered care — Promotes Resident participation, choice and control in health care needs, respects privacy and confidentiality, and communicates ethical issues to the interdisciplinary team and Director of Care.
