Job description

The Gas Bar Supervisor is responsible to ensure customer service is provided through maintaining a safe and efficient operation while adhering to Company policies, procedures and standards. The Gas Bar Supervisor reports directly to the Gas Bar Manager and provides direction and supervision to the Gas Bar Clerk Cashiers. The primary responsibilities include;

  • Provides customer service and maintains positive customer relations through the proper handling of questions, comments, request and complaints. Effectively works in a diverse team environment in a proficient and friendly manner.
  • Plans and performs all aspects of Gas Bar functions including stocking and display functions, facing in an efficient and organized manner. Ensures display presentation and proper stock levels are maintained.
  • Handles merchandise ensuring quality, minimizing damages and markdowns. Provides substitutions and ensures price integrity.
  • Performs general cleanup duties such as cleaning spills, display fixtures and washrooms to ensure a neat and organized department. Responsible for keeping the sales floor, back stock area and pump islands clean of cardboard and debris, as well as disposal of garbage.
  • Performs duties following established Occupational Health & Safety, Food Safety and Environmental regulations and policies to ensure the health and safety of all staff and customers. Promotes the prevention of robbery and violence in the workplace. Follows all rules and regulations regarding the safe handling of workplace hazardous materials.
  • Ensures the proper care, use and maintenance of equipment and tools. Reports repair requirements to the Gas Bar Manager or Duty Manager.
  • Responsible for all aspects of ordering merchandise and supplies.
  • Responsible for all aspects of receiving including reviewing / verifying and authorizing appropriate invoices, returns, transfers, claims and proper storage of products.
  • Responsible for organizing and conducting inventory.
  • Provides supervision / direction to staff in the Gas Bar in the following areas : Ensures daily functions are carried out in an organized and efficient manner. Ensures that health and safety rules and regulations are followed. Technical training (. orientation, commodity specific functions, etc) with day-to-day instruction. Application of effective customer service techniques. Participates in program implementation.
  • Provides administrative support to the Gas Bar Manager in the following areas; Participates in performance management of subordinates including verbal coaching, written documentation on work records, preparation and delivery of performance reviews. Manager must be present for appraisals if ratings are below average or outstanding. Assists management in identifying high-potential employees. Ensures subordinates are trained and have the skills, ability and experience needed to perform the work at the required quality and standards established by the Company. Replaces shifts and authorizes appropriate documents. Develops and maintains schedules, including inputting and editing as required with management approval. Participates in the development of department work plans, yearly budgets and leading meetings. Participates in interviews as required (with the exception of peers) and provides other administrative support such as preparation of letters of offer, staffing requests and budget information etc.
  • Provides direction as required, to staff in other departments to ensure established occupational health and safety rules / regulations and immediate customer service standards are addressed. Report any policy and procedure issues to the Gas Bar or Duty Manager.
  • Opens and closes Gas Bar, completes daily reports, and sells memberships in the stand alone Gas Bar locations.
  • Performs all aspects of the Gas Bar functions including but not limited to; car wash maintenance, washing windows, checking and filling oil and / or washer fluid and checking tire pressure.

  • Six (6) months of gas bar or equivalent retail experience, with strong product knowledge
  • Basic receiving, ordering and merchandising skills
  • Basic Word, Excel and Outlook

    MINIMUM / ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS :

  • Grade 12 education or acceptable combination of education and experience.
  • Six (6) months of gas bar or equivalent retail experience, with strong product knowledge.
  • Basic receiving, ordering and merchandising skills.
  • Basic Word, Excel and Outlook.
  • Must be 18 years of age.
  • DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS

  • Related post secondary education
  • Experience in supervising others, planning and organizing events, projects or programs.
  • Co-op Gas Bar experience including WHMIS knowledge.
  • Propane ticket (Current and up to date PGAC – 100 training).
  • Kronos knowledge
  • Cash handling experience.
  • Employees must successfully complete and maintain the following courses :
  • Occupational Health and Safety courses as required.
  • Foodwise #14 (within one year)
  • Fundamentals of Workplace Communication
  • Transportation of Dangerous Goods (TDG) certification (within 115 hours from effective date of appointment).
  • Propane ticket PGAC – 100 training (within the initial or class trial period)
  • Gas Bar Cashier Training Program (within 115 hours)
