As a copy editor and translator at Ogilvy, you will work closely with our account, creative, production and studio teams to ensure that all final material delivered to our clients is free of linguistic, terminological, grammatical, and typographical errors, matches approved copydecks and is consistent with established brand tone / language.
You must be fluently bilingual and possess a high level of technical proficiency and cultural literacy in Canadian French and English to identify and correct inconsistencies in transcreations, adaptations and translations.
Your responsibilities will include editing copydecks before layouting of print material, and recording or filming of messages, as well as proofreading in both languages. Your role will also include translating client-facing work of internal documents from English to French and from French to English.
You may also be required to develop and maintain internal and brand lexicons and / or leverage computer-assisted translation tools (i.e., LogiTerm terminological databases and translation memory) to ensure the efficiency and consistency of translation work.
Skills and Experience Required / Key Responsibilities
- 5+ years experience in bilingual copy editing and proofreading, and translation (English to French; French to English)
- Agency experience is an asset
- Expert attention to detail; able to identify and correct stylistic, grammatical and typographical errors to ensure the final copy is error-free
- Comprehensive knowledge of the evolving rules of Canadian French (anglicisms, epicene and inclusive writing, neologisms, etc.) and Canadian English (inclusive writing, terminological evolution and neologisms, difference between American and Canadian English, etc.)
- Collaboration with creative partners to recommend solutions to stylistic or grammatical challenges
- Comparative proofreading of typeset proofs and Web and TV assets against original copy to ensure they are free of errors or omissions; comprehensive knowledge of Canadian French and English punctuation and typography standards
- Capable of editing documents across multiple platforms (Microsoft Office Suite, Adobe Acrobat, Adobe Workfront Proof, Adobe Creative Suite, etc.)
- Be able, if necessary, to write short texts of an administrative or other type
- Strong analytical skills, excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to handle multiple projects in a fast-paced environment
- Process-oriented self-starter; show initiative in setting up processes, translation tools, etc.
- A constant thirst for learning and improving skills
A test for ability / experience may be provided to a shortlist of successful candidates.
