Job Summary

The Team

The Courtenay Child and Youth Mental Health (CYMH) Team is a diverse and experienced group of professionals dedicated to supporting the mental health and well-being of children, teens, and their families. Our team consists of 10 clinicians and one psychologist, each bringing a range of expertise, including early years specialists, adolescent-focused practitioners, high-risk outreach, specialized intake / brief therapy, and the capacity for psychological assessments. As an established and highly respected team, we work with some of the most complex mental health cases in the Comox Valley. Collaboration is at the heart of what we do, and our team is known for its kindness, mutual support, and deep knowledge base, ensuring that we provide exceptional care to our clients.

The Role

As a CYMH Clinician, you will work directly with children and families, creating assessment and treatment plans for those with moderate to severe mental health challenges. Your responsibilities will include providing individual and group counseling, and collaborating with contracted psychiatry when necessary. This role has a significant impact on the lives of the children and families we serve, as we are known for offering timely care and receiving positive feedback from both families and the community. Qualifications :

Education and Experience Requirements

  • Masters in Counselling, Social Work, Educational Counselling, Clinical Counselling, Clinical Psychology or Child and Youth Care or comparable graduate degree at the Master's level in a similar subject may be considered.

NOTE : If your degree was obtained outside of Canada, you need to confirm it has been assessed for equivalency through the International Credential Evaluation Services ( ICES ). You must provide a basic report by the closing date of this posting to be considered.

  • Minimum of one (1) year full-time equivalent experience working with children and youth and their families, with responsibility for providing a wide range of community based mental health services.
  • Must possess and maintain a valid class 5 BC Driver's license with no restriction or equivalent (i.e. from another Canadian Province).
  • Preference may be given to applicants with the following :

  • Two (2) years or more experience working with children and youth and their families, with responsibility for providing a wide range of community based mental health services .
  • Applicants who self-identify as First Nations, Métis or Inuit with the required combination of education and experience.

    About this Position :

    There are 2 vacancies available, both based in Courtenay :

  • One (1) regular full time;
  • One (1) temporary full time opportunity until March 31, 2025, that may be extended or may become permanent. Board and lodging and relocation expenses do not apply.
  • Flexible work options are available; this position may be able to work up to two (2) days at home per week subject to an approved telework agreement.

    An eligibility list may be established to fill future temporary and permanent vacancies.

    A Criminal Record Check (CRC) and Criminal Record Review Act Check (CRRA) will be required.
