The Role

BGC is seeking a geotechnical laboratory technician with a passion to expand their knowledge of geotechnical testing for our advanced soil and rock testing facility in Fredericton, New Brunswick ( BGC Engineering | Fredericton, NB (matterport.com) ).

BGC’s laboratory is a state-of-the-art facility which specializes in strength, compressibility and permeability testing of soil, and strength testing of rock. Our testing equipment includes cyclic dynamic simple shear, servo-controlled fully automated triaxial, and automated oedometer systems. The technician will support engineers with advanced rock laboratory testing and learn foundational rock mechanics.

Responsibilities

• Organize and maintain sample inventory
• Maintain and operate testing equipment
• Prepare rock samples for testing
• Conduct advanced laboratory tests on rock and occasionally soil
• Prepare laboratory test reports
• Follow lab procedures for safety and quality
• Train and mentor laboratory staff and laboratory visitors
