Annual : $79,439.72 - $85,081.04
Position Summary
Reporting to the General Counsel, the Legal Assistant provides essential administrative support to the Legal Counsel within a unionized environment. In this role, you will play a critical role in supporting the General Counsel in various tasks, including but not limited to managing complex schedules, managing confidential information related to disciplinary actions, grievances, and other sensitive matters, preparing legal documents, attending and assisting with preparation for legal meetings with external counsel and other departments, and coordinating key legal processes. The Legal Assistant is a vital part of the team, working closely with union staff, external counsel, and other stakeholders to ensure legal and operational matters are handled effectively, accurately, and in a timely manner. The successful candidate will have strong legal and administrative skills, along with excellent organizational, communication, and problem-solving abilities, handling sensitive legal matters in a unionized environment.
CANDIDATE PROFILE
The successful candidate will have the following :
Key Responsibilities :
- Administrative Support : Manage calendars, schedule meetings, prioritize urgent legal matters, and serve as a liaison between legal counsel, union leadership, and external parties.
- Legal Document Preparation : Draft, proofread, and review legal documents such as contracts, grievances, court filings, and legal correspondence, ensuring accuracy and compliance with union agreements, and supporting counsel in serving and filing court and other legal documents in compliance with court rules and processes
- File & Process Management : Organize and maintain legal files, track deadlines, and ensure efficient processing of legal matters in compliance with union policies and confidentiality standards.
- Stakeholder Communication : Handle inquiries from union members, leadership, and external legal partners, maintaining confidentiality and professionalism in all interactions.
- Legal Research : Conduct research on labor law, case law, and union-related matters, summarizing findings for legal counsel and union leadership.
- Confidential Legal Tracking : Track and manage confidential information related to the use, cost, and performance of outside legal counsel, including matters involving human resources and labor relations.
- Internal Union Matter Support : Analyze and make decisions on internal union complaints, disciplinary actions, and other sensitive union matters. Evaluate trends and forecasts potential outcomes, ensuring proper documentation, compliance, and proactive interventions to address emerging issues.
- Meeting Support : Assist legal counsel in attending and preparing for meetings with outside counsel and other union departments, ensuring the confidentiality and sensitive nature of legal advice discussed is maintained.
