Job description
Position Summary
In accordance with established mission, vision, values and strategic priorities of Northern Health, patient and staff safety is a priority and a responsibility shared by everyone; as such, the requirement to continuously improve quality and safety is inherent in all aspects of this position.

The Physician Assistant (PA), Emergency, performs a variety of clinical duties and responsibilities within the scope of a Physician Assistant as defined by the College of Physicians and Surgeons of British Columbia (CPSBC). Clinical care provided by the PA will occur in select facilities across the organization under the supervision of a PA Emergency Program Physician Supervisor (the Physician Supervisor). The PA reports to a Site Administrative Manager but is accountable to the Physician Supervisor or delegate for overall provision of quality of care and professional development. The PA supports the provision of continuous care in a team-based environment working collaboratively with the Emergency Department attending physicians (ED Physicians), medical residents, nursing, and allied health professionals to care for patients.

Starting salary will be approximately from $88,990 to $111,237 and will be based on education, training, experience, and salaries of similar positions.

FUNCTIONAL REPORTING RELATIONSHIPSs
The Physician Assistant, Emergency reports to the Physicians Supervisor, or delegate for all matters pertaining to their clinical practice. The Physician Assistant, Emergency administratively reports to the Manager, Clinical Operations or delegated administrative leader.

Qualfications
Education and Experience
‐The grant of registration as a certified non-registrant as a Physician Assistant requires certification as
a) Canadian Certified Physician Assistant (CCPA) by the Physician Assistant Certification Council of Canada (PACCC).
b) Or Physician Assistant-Certified (PA-C) by the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants NCCPA.
‐ Enrollment in and compliance with continuing professional development requirements, along with
proof of enrollment and compliance from the PACCC or the NCCPA, satisfactory to the College.
‐ Annual maintenance of Physician Assistant licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of British Columbia.
‐ English language proficiency meeting CPSBC requirements.
‐ Possession of Canadian Citizenship, permanent residency, or legal authorization to live and work in British Columbia.
‐ Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification, or achievement thereof within the three-month
training and orientation period.
‐ Compliance with all Northern Health educational/training requirements.
‐ Or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Proficient English communication skills, including with patients, families, care givers, and other health care professionals.
- Effective and efficient computer and written communication skills including order entry and clinical documentation.
- Demonstrated ability to work in a team-based environment and under the supervision of the assigned supervisor.
- Ability to perform professional duties effectively in the face of multiple, competing demands.
- Capability to perform position duties physically, including evening and overnight shifts.
- Proven proficiency in effective communication and relationship-building with various health professionals and disciplines.
- Strong interpersonal skills and adeptness in working under supervision and within team settings.
- Exhibited capability in documentation following CPSBC and organizational standards, policies and guidelines.
