Job Title : Immigration Lawyer (Legal Aid Ontario Experience Required)
Job Summary :
We are seeking a skilled and dedicated Immigration Lawyer with experience working with Legal Aid Ontario (LAO) to join our team. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in immigration and refugee law, representing clients in asylum claims, detention reviews, appeals, humanitarian applications, and other immigration matters. This role requires a deep commitment to social justice and providing high-quality legal representation to low-income and marginalized communities.
Key Responsibilities :
- Represent clients in immigration and refugee matters, including refugee claims, appeals at the Refugee Appeal Division (RAD) , judicial reviews at the Federal Court , inadmissibility hearings, detention reviews, and other immigration-related proceedings.
- Prepare and file applications for permanent residence, work permits, study permits, humanitarian and compassionate (H&C) applications, Pre-Removal Risk Assessments (PRRA), and other immigration relief.
- Provide legal advice and consultation to clients funded by Legal Aid Ontario (LAO) and assist with completing legal aid applications.
- Appear before the Immigration and Refugee Board (IRB) , Immigration Division (ID) , Immigration Appeal Division (IAD) , and other relevant tribunals.
- Conduct legal research and draft submissions, affidavits, memoranda, and other legal documents.
- Maintain accurate case files and ensure compliance with Legal Aid Ontario's billing and case management requirements .
- Collaborate with community organizations, social service agencies, and advocacy groups to support clients' needs.
- Provide "Know Your Rights" workshops and legal education sessions for immigrant and refugee communities.
- Supervise and mentor articling students, junior lawyers, or legal support staff, as needed.
- Stay updated on immigration law, policies, and Legal Aid Ontario guidelines and funding eligibility requirements .
