Position Summary :
Provide strategic HR guidance and support in the development and delivery of a full range of human resource functions within University Advancement. Reporting to the Director of Advancement Talent and Culture, the HR Advisor collaborates closely with internal clients to deliver high‑quality support across all HR functional areas, including talent acquisition, labour and employee relations, performance management, and compensation. The Advisor also contributes to the design, implementation, and facilitation of University Advancement’s training curriculum and professional development programs.
Primary Responsibilities :
Serve as an HR business partner to UA management and staff, developing a strong understanding of business strategies, goals, and operational needs.
Build and maintain proactive, trusting relationships with internal clients, providing value‑added guidance and coaching on a wide range of HR issues.
Lead end‑to‑end recruitment processes, including sourcing strategies, selection tools, and candidate evaluation.
Apply compensation principles and techniques to make equitable and informed recommendations.
Support annual and ad‑hoc performance management initiatives; provide guidance to managers on addressing performance concerns.
Manage labour relations dossiers by interpreting collective agreements, advising on employee-management issues, preparing grievance and disciplinary documentation, and ensuring consistent and compliant labour relations practices. Leverage HR data and metrics to assess trends, inform decision‑making, and support continuous improvement.
Ensure consistent application of HR policies, procedures, and initiatives; contribute to ongoing process improvements.
Demonstrate and uphold the values and culture of University Advancement.
Design multi‑modal curricula (in‑person, virtual, and online) for educational programs that support University Advancement’s philanthropic and operational objectives.
Determine optimal delivery methods, learning objectives, and content structures; design full courses and programs, including multi‑day and multi‑week formats, comprising content, activities, MyCourses infrastructure, syllabi, and facilitator guides.
Deliver intermediate and advanced training across one‑on‑one, group, and self‑service formats.
Conduct needs analyses and collaborate with stakeholders across University Advancement to ensure curriculum aligns with client goals and organizational priorities.
Collect and analyze training data to evaluate program effectiveness, refine delivery methods, and enhance the learner experience.
Facilitate (primarily) intermediate and advanced training in one-on-one, one-to-many, and self-service (online) formats for all McGill employees engaging with UA processes. Ensure the effective provision of individualized tutorials and focused instructions when necessary.
Contribute to the on-going design, implementation, and maintenance of onboarding and off‑boarding programs, ensuring cross‑functional input and adoption.
Monitor professional development approvals and related budgets; manage tasks related to training administration and support special projects as assigned
Bachelor’s degree in a related discipline - an HR Certificate / Diploma is an asset;
CRHA designation strongly preferred;
Five (seven preferred) years of experience as an HR generalist, providing advisory services in support of the complete HR cycle (areas including talent acquisition, labour and employee relations, performance management, and compensation);
Proven expertise in instructional design, adult learning principles, and multi‑modal curriculum development. Demonstrated experience giving group training sessions and course.
Demonstrated experience in needs analysis, program design, and managing budgets and administrative processes.
Strong commitment to continuous professional development and staying current with HR best practices.
Superior client service orientation with the ability to act as a trusted advisor and build strong partnerships.
Strong influencing skills and proven success working in a matrixed environment.
Comfortable working in a highly agile environment with the ability to maintain composure under pressure and meet key deadlines;
Creative problem‑solving skills and comfort working with HR data and metrics.
Fluent in English and French, both spoken and written, with advanced writing and presentation ability.
