Salary : Position Summary

The Emergency (ER) Veterinarian is responsible for delivering high-level medical care to our patients, providing exceptional customer service to pet owners, and setting an example of teamwork at Pulse Veterinary Specialists & Emergency through professionalism.

The ER Veterinarian will report to the Emergency Co-Managers and have regular collaboration with colleagues : Emergency Veterinarians, Critical Care Specialists and Lead Emergency RVT.

Duties and Responsibilities

Performs all technical responsibilities of a Registered Veterinarian including :

o Comprehensive patient work-up :

Obtaining history, performing physical examinations, ordering and interpreting diagnostics, make treatment recommendations.

Perform SOAPs, and document all communication

Complete medical records and correspondence by the end of each day.

o Communicate with owners regarding their pets concern, respond to client calls / emails in a timely manner.

o Prepare discharge notes, and schedule discharge appointments.

o Follow procedures to ensure medical files are transmitted to the primary care Veterinarian.

o Understand the fundamentals of emergency procedures (CPR, intubation, FAST scan, etc.), work with the team to expand and grow to become proficient in emergency procedures.

o Provide accurate estimate invoices and clearly communicate financial information with owners.

o Follow hospital guidelines for client payment policies.

General oversight and supervision of Emergency RVT, TA and Reception staff.

Engages with Lead ER RVT to ensure the department is efficiently staffed and supported.

Identify problems and facilitate solutions to ensure smooth operations within the hospital.

Collaborates with Hospital Manager, Assistant Hospital Manager, Lead ER RVT, and Human Resources on employee matters within the Emergency team including : performance management, conflict resolution, and recruitment and hiring efforts.

Follows all SOPs to support smooth hospital operations.

Follows all federal and provincial animal health laws and regulations regarding workplace health and safety.

Ensure all requirements for maintaining a veterinary license in good standing

Other duties may be assigned as required.

Qualifications

The ideal candidate will have :

Education and Experience

Veterinarian degree (DVM) from accredited college or university.

Active veterinary license in good standing or eligible for registration with the ABVMA.

2 years of veterinary experience is preferred, but not mandatory.

Familiar with emergency procedures and diagnostics specific to a specialty emergency hospital.
