Unit Summary
The Regional Trauma, Emergency and Critical Care Program is comprised of the Emergency Department, Surgical Trauma Unit, Burn Trauma Unit as well as the ICU East and South. The program is responsible for tertiary and quaternary care delivery in the Hamilton Niagara Haldimand Brant LHIN. The Program supports the regional trauma, neurosurgical and stroke programs, in addition to offering specialized care for other clinical areas such as neurosciences, medicine, vascular, surgery and spine.
Emergency Department
Point of entry for all patients requiring emergency level care and regional programs at the Hamilton General Site including adult trauma, burns, cardiology, cardiovascular and neurosciences. The Emergency Department manages care delivery for a broad range of disease processes involving all age groups including cardiac and respiratory arrest, adult trauma resuscitation, critically ill, and many non-urgent type of patient presentations.
6 South - Inpatient Surgical Trauma
26 bed inpatient unit with a 6 bed step down equipped with cardiac monitors. The unit cares for a variety of specialties including trauma, orthopedic, digestive diseases, ENT and urology patients.
Burn Unit
9 bed unit equipped to deliver highly specialized expert care to critical and non-critical adult burns, including those required ventilator support.
ICU East and South
One of 4 critical care units at the Hamilton General Site. ICU East / South is a 31 bed Level 3 ICU providing specialized care to highly complex patients using leading edge treatment modalities.
Position Summary
As a member of the healthcare team, this position provides clinical support in patient care areas, including Emergency Department, 6 South, BTU and ICU according to the job description for Healthcare Aides and under the supervision of a Registered Health Care professional. Follows developed patient care plans, observing and reporting any substantial findings and or changes in patient status and behavior to the appropriate health care team member. Performs tasks delegate according to the tasks that the Health Care Aide has received appropriate training for to carry out. Provides basic personal care for patients in daily living activities, including : assisting patients with transfers, nutrition, bathing, toileting, dressing and other requirements. Assists with ambulation, positioning and transferring. Takes action to ensure the work environment is safe. We are looking for staff who enjoy working in a fast paced, highly skilled, multi-disciplinary patient care environment.

Qualifications
- Personal Support Worker or Healthcare Aide Certificate or nursing student with successful completion of all level 2 courses at McMaster University or nursing student with successful completion of all level 2 courses in McMaster University and Mohawk College collaborative program or nursing student with successful completion of all level 1 courses in the Mohawk College Diploma program
- Personal Support Worker or Healthcare Aide Certificate required
- Demonstrated competence with computer skills
- Demonstrated effective communication (verbal and written), interpersonal, teamwork skills and the ability to deal respectfully and effectively with patients, families, health care team member
- Demonstrated initiative and judgement appropriate for the position
- Ability to accept assigned or delegated functions
- Ability to set priorities and organize work accordingly to meet deadlines
- Ability to accept assigned or delegated functions
- Ability to lift using appropriate lifting techniques and bend push and pull using proper body mechanics
- Knowledge of infection control policies and procedures
- 2 years experience in Critical Care or Acute Care preferred
- Computer familiarity or willingness to learn computer skills as required
- Ability to deal with various hospital departments effectively and collaboratively
