We are currently seeking an individual to assume the demanding and fulfilling position of Equipment Operator with the Roads & Sidewalks Division of the Public Works and Engineering Department.
Reporting to the Superintendent, Roads and Sidewalks and under the direct supervision of the Supervisor, Roads and Sidewalks, the Equipment Operator, operates primarily a road grader and excavator (backhoe) and other mechanical equipment. The position also performs manual duties related to Roads & Sidewalks Operations and construction as required. The position involves working weekends and being on standby when required.
The position requires a valid Class I Driver's Licence with air brake endorsement and manual transmission and a minimum of five years of equipment operation experience. The incumbent will have general knowledge in equipment repairs and maintenance, and possess the ability to diagnose and correct mechanical problems. A demonstrated ability to operate a grader and excavator on municipal streets is required.
The City of Yellowknife offers an attractive starting salary of $98,175 as well as a comprehensive benefits package including a monthly housing allowance, and a defined benefits pension plan.
