Description

Title : Senior Commerical Field Underwriter

Location : Toronto, ON; GTA

Job Overview :

As a Field Underwriter, you'll operate with minimal supervision to drive new business growth by cultivating and sustaining relationships with brokers. You will evaluate business proposals based on company standards and offer expert underwriting advice and guidance to prospective and existing clients.

Key Responsibilities :

  • Represent the company effectively by nurturing broker relationships and managing your book of business to meet profit and revenue targets.
  • Serve as the primary contact for designated brokers.
  • Meet sales targets by identifying and creating new business opportunities.
  • Proactively build a pipeline of new accounts well before their renewal dates to achieve profit and revenue goals.
  • Regularly discuss potential new accounts, assess opportunities, strategize approaches, and foster underwriting relationships with brokers.
  • Underwrite and oversee a portfolio of commercial lines business within your assigned territory.
  • Collaborate on underwriting and renewal processes for commercial lines accounts, pre-qualify prospects, and work with the production team to evaluate new business opportunities.
  • Maintain precise account records and analyze accounts that were not secured to enhance sales strategies and competitive insights.
  • Facilitate effective communication on underwriting procedures, growth, and profit objectives.
  • Review loss control inspections, engage in underwriting projects, and provide recommendations to enhance department performance, including coverage, pricing, and competitive strategies.
  • Attend insurance and broker-related events.
  • Travel within your territory using a company vehicle, which may require short-notice travel or daily driving as necessary.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

Qualifications :

  • Minimum of five years of experience in the Property and Casualty industry.
  • Post-secondary education or equivalent business experience.
  • Completion or active pursuit of a Property and Casualty Industry Designation.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Strong attention to detail with the ability to thoroughly review information.
  • Excellent decision-making skills with the capability to justify choices.
  • Effective communication skills, able to present information persuasively.
  • Outstanding customer service abilities.
  • Robust analytical and problem-solving skills, with a talent for identifying and implementing solutions.
  • Ability to adapt to change and perform effectively under pressure.
  • Capable of multitasking and tracking progress to meet deadlines.
  • Ability to work independently and make informed decisions.
  • Willingness to travel frequently within the assigned territory.
  • Valid driver’s license.
