DescriptionAt Lufa Farms, we’re on a mission to build a better food system by growing food where people live and growing it responsibly. This led us to build the world’s first commercial rooftop greenhouse in 2011 and the world’s largest less than a decade later. To support our six high-tech urban farms in Montreal, which range in production from greens to vining crops, we’re looking for a Production Manager to oversee all cultivation and operations activities at one or more of these facilities (dependent on candidate experience and current operational needs) to achieve maximum potential production and efficiency.The Production Manager is responsible for managing the budget and all cultivation activities at a given site, establishing robust processes for the following with the support of technical advisors and the greenhouse operations team : climate, irrigation, and nutrient management; biological pest control; crop planning and crop work strategies; yield and quality; training and development of the team; research and development; budget planning and operational cost reductions.Our ideal candidate is motivated to help change the way cities eat one rooftop greenhouse at a time and is incredibly organized, caring, and hardworking. They apply first principles thinking and data-driven decision-making to everything they do, seek operational excellence and continuous improvement, and can effectively collaborate with various teams. We’re looking for candidates with commercial greenhouse or other agricultural production experience with a horticulture, engineering, or other relevant scientific background.Responsibilities
- Oversee plant science and cultivation strategies, managing the entirety of the budget for any given site(s);
- Manage the operations team to ensure all weekly tasks are completed and team members are coached, motivated, and supported;
- Establish rigorous practices and procedures to ensure efficient and optimized production and operations;
- Seek to continuously improve and maximize production at all greenhouses;
- Act as first responder for responsible site(s), ensuring all necessary measures and maintenance are in place for crop success (with the support of the operations and facilities teams as required);
- Develop and report on KPIs for the site(s) including yield, quality, waste, costs, and productivity;
- Responsible for maintaining a strong culture of inclusion and respect while ensuring operational excellence.Requirements
- At least five years’ experience in commercial greenhouse or other agricultural operations;
- At least five years’ experience in commercial greenhouse or other agricultural operations;
- Strong communication and collaboration skills, capable of working with various teams and departments;
- Access to a car and valid driver’s licence to easily commute to site(s) in the Greater Montreal area;
- Comfortable using Google Suite or other comparable software applications.Assets
- Continuous learning and stays informed on the latest technological and scientific developments in relevant industries;
- Management and leadership skills and experience;
- Bilingual (French and English) or more.Schedule
- Full-time position of 40-45 hours per week with time outside regular hours or on weekends expected.Compensation & benefits :
