Job descriptionLead a team in developing high-performance embedded computing solutions for avionics, defense, and rugged environments; Collaborate with cross-functional teams to define system requirements, ensuring seamless integration of hardware, software, mechanical components, and readiness reviews; Conduct feasibility studies and system-level analysis to assess performance, reliability, and efficiency of embedded systems in harsh environments; Provide adaptable support to the systems engineering organization. Responsibilities may include direct program systems engineering support, proposal development, or support to internal development tasks; Work closely with customers, industry standards groups and internal stakeholders to gather and analyze requirements. May represent the organization in these meetings and present technical topics; Develop and maintain system engineering plans, documentation, functional diagrams, and compliance matrices, design verification plans; Ensure designs meet required ARINC and MIL-STD standards such as DO-160G, MIL-STD-810 / 461 and DO-254 and DO-178C; Stay current with emerging technologies and industry trends in avionics and defense systems; Define, develop and analyze the requirements and specifications of the systems and platforms to be developed, considering the integrated hardware / software applications required by the market and customer use cases; Act as internal technical representative of clients and ensure that design requirements are properly understood and implemented. Verify the conformity of the system and its components and ensure that they meet the requirements. Has strong understanding of system engineering principles, including requirements analysis, design, integration, reliability, verification, and validation; Has strong leadership and organizational skills, excellent communication, priority management, planning and team mobilization skills; Is a valued collaborator, a team player with professionalism and a sense of responsibility; Has excellent problem-solving and troubleshooting abilities, with a keen attention to details; Is familiar with requirements management tools and version control systems; Has knowledge of system reliability, qualification and verification testing methodologies; Understands network architectures including management, protocols, security, wireless technologies; Has experience with different operating systems (e.g Windows, Linux, RTOS); Understands various programming languages (e.g., C++, Python, Java); Has knowledge of cybersecurity and information assurance principles. Education : Bachelor’s degree, masters degree or equivalent in engineering or a related technical discipline; Experience : Ideally 5+ years of experience in systems engineering, with a focus on hardware / software integration in embedded ruggedized systems. Experience with open platforms like VPX, SOSA, COMExpress a plus; Knowledge : Strong communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills are required enabling an effective interface with other departments and / or professionals, and capable of representing the organization as the main technical contact, as well as providing leadership and guidance to less experienced professionals; Assets : Experience working with JIRA, Confluence, Teams or similar collaborative tools; Languages : English and French. Functional English is required, as the candidate will be the technical point of contact with our customers, most of whom are outside Quebec. Kontron Canada is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Systems Designer to join her team and contribute to the development of cutting-edge, ruggedized systems for the aerospace and defense industries. This role requires a deep understanding of system engineering principles, hardware and software integration, and the unique challenges of designing systems for harsh environments.
KEY RESPONSABILITIES :
- Design and develop innovative system solutions for a wide range of rugged embedded computing requirements within our target markets;
- Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to define comprehensive system requirements and specifications;
- Leverage strong analytical skills to address development issues promptly and effectively;
- Ensure system deliverables meet or exceed customer expectations and industry standards;
- Collaborate on developing comprehensive system reliability, qualification and verification plans to ensure all components meet rigorous performance, reliability, and safety standards required.
