The Opportunity

We are currently seeking an Electrical Instrumentation & Controls (EIC) Technician to join our Canada Gas Operations team based in Drumheller, AB. Controls Technicians repair, install, troubleshoot, and perform other planned maintenance and corrective tasks on assigned electronic, electrical, pneumatic and/or mechanical control systems, devices, and ancillary equipment.

Reporting to the Area Manager (Wheatland Area), the EIC Controls Technician will operate and maintain natural gas compression and auxiliary equipment (including but not limited to industrial gas turbines, natural gas generators, boilers, air compressors, and PLC control systems) in a manner which meets operational needs in compliance with company and regulatory requirements. In this role, you will also be required to perform tasks from other disciplines.

Week 1 - Monday to Thursday 9 hours per day; Friday off

Week 2 - Monday to Thursday 9 hours per day; 8 hours on Friday

What you’ll do

  • Perform installation, testing, repair, and maintenance on compressor station equipment, and other facilities relevant to the pipeline system as required
  • Conduct routine regular maintenance on gas turbine packages, gas compressor units and associated auxiliary equipment
  • Troubleshoot, test, & maintain shutdown devices, fire & gas systems, auxiliary systems, HVAC systems, relief and over-pressure protection devices, control valves, PLC’s & control systems
  • Install & configure software in control systems
  • Perform emergency repairs to meet customer and client needs
  • Ensure facilities and personnel comply with TC Energy's Community, Safety and Environment policies and procedures as well as accepted risk standards
  • Lead/manage the safe and efficient completion of low/medium complexity projects including the coordination and monitoring of contractor work activities or third-party active control
  • Complete all administrative functions related to position and duties
  • Maintain core operational task qualifications
  • Engage in training, coaching, and mentoring opportunities to develop trade skills

Minimum Qualifications

  • Journeyman Electrician certification
  • 5 years of related industry experience

Preferred Qualifications

  • Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS/Blueworx) and SAP experience
  • Previous experience with high pressure natural gas
  • Current with technological advances in the compression field and PLC's
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills, with the ability to work effectively across
  • disciplines in a geographically dispersed area and consistently demonstrate the values of
  • Safety, People, Operational Performance, and Financial Stewardship.
  • Demonstrated commitment to continual learning, ongoing development, and the ability to
  • adapt to and champion change in support of operational improvement.
  • Ability to meet and maintain company-defined operator qualifications and technical tasks

This position requires candidates to:

  • Have and maintain a valid driver's license and provide a driver's abstract for review
  • Successfully complete a pre-employment medical screening, including drug and alcohol testing
  • Willingness to travel for temporary assignments, meetings, or training, including occasional overnight stays away from home.
  • Participation in on-call rotation, overtime, and emergency support as required.
