Qualifications
High School diploma plus a minimum of two years of experience
- Equivalencies will be considered on the basis of 1 year ofexperience for 1 year of education or 1 year of education for 1 year of experience
- Valid Standard First Aid and CPR Level-C Certification withAED
- Current Certified Criminal Records Check (with fingerprintsand issued within the last six months)
- Young Offenders Centres will require a current CertifiedCriminal Records Check and a Vulnerable Sector Check (issued within the lastsix months)
- For interest in Young Offender’s Branch experience workingwith youth will be an asset
- Experience managing conflict
- Experience working in a team environment
- Minimum of 18 years of age
- Valid Class 5 Canadian Driver’s License (non-graduated)
- Legally entitled to work in Canada
Assets :
- Previous experience as a Correctional Peace Officer orCorrectional Services Worker with our department or equivalent with aProvincial or Federal jurisdiction
- Previous experience as a police officer or auxiliary policemember.
- Military Service with focus on protection / security
- Emergency response experience : EMT; Firefighter
- Youth worker / client group work (e.g. group homes,aboriginal camps)
- Experience working with adults with serious mental healthissues
- Appropriate related security experience such as seniorlevel security, intense complicated security environment, responsible to makedecisions regarding people issues (e.
g. mall security, hospital security,airport screening officer, loss prevention officer, commissionaire, armedguard)
Bylaw officer experience
To perform thefull scope of the role, the position requires employees to don PersonalProtection Equipment (PPE’s) and to be clean-shaven where the face piece of theequipment seals to the skin of the face.
This is in accordance with theEffective Face Seal, Occupational Health and Safety Code, section 250(2).Exceptions due to medical and religious grounds may be accommodated.

Role
As a Correctional Peace Officer, you will be a valued member ofa team that is essential to maintaining the safety and security of a centre.
You will perform a variety of security functions to ensure the care and custodyof offenders while also ensuring the safety of centre staff and the public.
Inthis environment, you will monitor offender movement, conduct patrols andcounts, manage behaviour, complete searches and complete administrative dutiesassociated with the Correctional Peace Officer role, including report writingand data entry.
As you will be working directly with offenders, providingsupport and guidance, acting as a positive role model, and developing anin-depth knowledge of behaviors and personalities is fundamental in order tosucceed in this role.
You will behighly motivated to work with offenders and thrive in a demanding and stressfulwork environment. Well-developed interpersonal skills, sound judgment and aprofessional demeanor are essential to this position.
You must have the abilityto function effectively in a team environment and possess critical thinkingskills. Well-developed verbal and written communication, along with basiccomputer skills are necessary to ensure success in this position.
Provenleadership skills and the ability to manage conflicts effectively are alsoessential.

Interestedcandidates must be available for a variety of shifts : days, afternoons, nights,including weekends and holidays.
Some positions are casual / on-call with noguarantee of hours. Successful candidates may at times receive shifts on shortnotice.
A successful candidate could be working full-time hours or have noshifts depending on the week. Shifts vary based on the Centre’s needs
