Job description

Reporting to the Project Manager or another Aecon designate, the Project Engineer will provide field-engineering information to the project management team and sub-trades to ensure construction works comply with all the design drawings, engineering standards, contract, codes and specifications. We have multiple full-time positions open to service current and future work in Campbell River, BC. This is an exciting, long-term opportunity to work on large scale, complex civil and hydro infrastructure projects.

What You’ll Do Here :

  • Meet daily with project crews to review production schedule and confirm all materials, equipment and resources are readily available for production to continue on schedule and within budget.
  • Collect, coordinate and analyze shop drawings, design specifications, material requirements and project data through the duration of the project to ensure quality and contract specification compliance.
  • Provide technical input for project work plan and scheduling, identifying risk elements of production, materials, equipment or process that could negatively impact the budget or schedule.
  • Evaluate daily production, schedule and budget projections to accurately track project performance. Document daily activities in Company approved methods and technologies.
  • Notify team members and manager of any significant schedule changes and recommend solutions for management consideration.
  • Remit accurate project quantity input and controls using assigned project cost coding to ensure project financials are accurately reported. Manage cost coding with Company finance and accounting teams regarding employee time, materials, equipment and subcontractor needs.
  • Review project specifications for quality assurance at the beginning of work, during the project work and after work completes. Initiate and manage appropriate certificates, inspections and other documentation regarding construction production on the project site.
  • Work with construction crews and engineering leaders to plan field layout on the project site, ensuring appropriate utility and commercial lines are marked before production begins. Initiate and manage any permits needed before work can begin.
  • Prepare monthly cost projections using information generated from project management systems and prepare quarterly cash flow projections.
  • Examine / inspect field conditions and identify problems, inaccuracies, and cost-saving measures that arise and take corrective actions as needed.
  • Coordinate subcontractor work methods, schedule and crews as needed.
  • Reconcile job close-out checklist with owner representative and field crews at the end of the project.
  • Provide mentoring and coaching to junior engineering staff and technical employees.
  • Perform other duties and responsibilities as required.

What You Bring to the Team :

  • Post-secondary school education in Civil Engineering or Construction Management disciplines; or acceptable combination of education and previous experience.
  • A minimum of 5+ years working as a Field Engineer or Project Coordinator, ideally in project engineering or heavy civil construction environment.
  • Must be a Registered Professional Engineer and member in good standing with a Canadian provincial or territorial engineering association.
  • Knowledge of construction equipment & techniques, drawing & specifications, building materials and required standards applicable to the project.
  • Proficient in software related to the construction industry (e.g. Primavera Scheduling software, AutoCAD, SAP etc.).
  • Knowledge of engineering and construction change management processes.
  • Excellent computer skills including proficiency in MS Office (Outlook, Excel, Word, PowerPoint, etc.).
  • Proven organizational skills to handle multiple deadlines and tasks within a fast-paced environment.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, both written and oral.
  • Flexibility to work in both field and office.
  • The expected pay range for this position is $95,000 - $120,000.
