The OCDSB is the largest school district in Eastern Ontario, serving 73,000 students in 147 schools Psychologist / Psychological Associate 100% Regular (12 month work year) Psychologist : $88,983 to $110,475 per year Psychological Associate : $73,619 to $91,220 (Additional Salary increase effective April 2023) Under the direction of the Supervisor of Psychological Services, the Psychologist fulfills professional and legal responsibilities concerning the provision of psychological services; responds to the needs of students, families and school personnel for consultative and direct services i.e., full range of diagnostic services, individual and group therapy along with providing support for system needs; promotes understanding of exceptional and non-exceptional students; acts as a resource to school staff with respect to modifying academic programs, developing IEP's, and in determining eligibility for exceptionality designation and specialized-class placement; performs administrative tasks and other related duties as assigned.Candidate Profile : Formal Education : Registration with the College of Psychologists in Ontario at the doctoral level, with requirements traditionally including : Ph.D. from an accredited university, preferably APA and / or CPA approved, which is primarily psychological in nature; demonstration of comprehensive knowledge of theoretical issues and research literature relevant to the practice of clinical psychology and research methodology through successful completion of graduate-level courses at the doctoral level, successful completion of specialty or comprehensive exams based on a wide survey of the literature, completion of experimental research for a Doctoral Thesis / Dissertation (the Doctoral Dissertation demonstrates the ability to independently conduct a publishable research study); extensive pre-doctoral clinical training (including more than one year of closely supervised practice and pre-doctoral internship); additional post-doctoral supervision (at least one year) and successful completion of written and oral exams through the College of Psychologists. Some Board Psychologists have also completed Post-Doctoral internships (at least one year in duration). The work requires that the incumbent maintain full professional responsibility for effective psychological services to designated areas of the Board by working within the Philosophy and Code of Ethics of the College of Psychologists of Ontario. The work also requires direct involvement in an interdisciplinary model of service delivery and the ongoing design of new and more effective means of providing required services (continuing education requirements in accordance with College of Psychologists of Ontario). Experience : Two years of related experience. Additional Skills : Provision of professional psychological services requires gathering and evaluating information from a range of sources such as clinical observations, assessments, professional journals, analyzing and developing solutions to problems of student behaviour, such as academic failure, lack of motivation, violence, suicide; adaptation and application of specialized professional materials. The job requires oral and written communication skills to prepare presentations and deliver them; to write clinical reports and explain their contents to professionals and lay people; to mediate in highly charged emotional situations; knowledge and application of statistical procedures in interpreting assessment tests and published research; knowledge of the current Ontario curriculum and Board policies. Ability to establish a therapeutic relationship with students and families and to consult with staff; ability to formulate and communicate diagnoses in accordance with the Regulated Health Professions Act, 1991; awareness of educational implications of diagnostic findings; research skills and knowledge of program development and evaluation to determine outcome of intervention techniques; knowledge of and continual updating of knowledge of relevant legislation (Acts and Regulations), Guidelines and Standards); and computer skills, including word-processing skills. In addition, the job requires effective time-management to service multiple locations and excellent problem-solving and workload-management / goal-setting skills.
