Job description

The Cable Public Affairs Channel (CPAC) is Canada’s window on parliament, politics and public affairs. As Canada’s only national, bilingual media outlet focused exclusively on politics, we are unique in the Canadian media landscape.

The Role

Based in Ottawa just steps from Parliament Hill, this is an exciting opportunity for an experienced candidate to produce insightful public affairs content for CPAC’s television and multimedia audiences. The successful candidate will form an integral part of our comprehensive daily coverage of Canadian politics, including federal and provincial election campaigns, as well as political conventions and major policy events.

Primary Responsibilities :

  • Produce fact-checked dynamic and compelling content suitable for all platforms for CPAC’s daily shows;
  • Write stories and produce content for various media platforms, including digital and social media;
  • Establish, maintain and leverage a network of contacts;
  • Work on-air and on digital content as reporter and narrator;
  • Contribute to story ideas and pitch story ideas to the editorial team;
  • Produce thirty to sixty-minute current affairs long form interviews and documentaries;
  • Prepare and write scripts
  • Chase political office holders and expert guests and analysts;
  • Coordinate logistics for interviews
  • Conduct interviews;
  • Undertake other duties as assigned.

Qualifications (knowledge, skills and experience required) :

  • Undergraduate Degree in Journalism or Media Arts, or the equivalent combination of education and media experience;
  • Five years professional experience in the news industry, including radio & television broadcasting;
  • Understand and maintain current knowledge of the Canadian Political system, and of current and emerging issues and trends;
  • Understand the legislative and regulatory framework and organizations within the Canadian Broadcast System;
  • Excellent news judgment, critical thinking and synthesizing skills;
  • Strong command of writing, interview and production techniques for TV and digital media; strong familiarity with various social media platforms;
  • Excellent time management and organizational skills with the ability to work under pressure and tight deadlines;
  • Strong project management skills and experience;
  • Ability to work flexible, irregular hours and overtime as required;

    Le rôle

    Ce poste basé à Ottawa, à quelques pas de la Colline du Parlement, est une occasion intéressante pour un(e) candidat(e) expérimenté(e) de produire un contenu d'affaires publiques perspicace pour les auditoires des contenus télévisés et multimédias de CPAC. Le / la candidat(e) retenu(e) fera partie intégrante de notre couverture quotidienne de la politique canadienne, notamment des campagnes électorales fédérales et provinciales, ainsi que des congrès politiques et des événements politiques majeurs.

    Responsabilités principales :

  • Produire, pour les émissions quotidiennes de CPAC, un contenu dynamique et attrayant, dont les faits sont vérifiés, et qui est adapté à toutes les plateformes ;
  • Rédiger des articles et produire du contenu pour diverses plateformes médiatiques, y compris les médias numériques et sociaux ;
  • Établir, entretenir et exploiter un réseau de contacts ;
  • Travailler à l'antenne et sur le contenu numérique en tant que journaliste et narrateur;
  • Contribuer aux idées de reportage et les présenter à l'équipe de la Rédaction ;
  • Réaliser des entrevues de longue durée et des documentaires de trente à soixante minutes traitant de sujets d'actualité ;
  • Préparer et rédiger des scripts ;
  • Solliciter les responsables politiques, les experts et analystes à inviter aux émissions ;
  • Coordonner la logistique pour la réalisation d'entrevues ;
  • Réaliser des entrevues ;
  • Effectuer d'autres tâches qui lui sont confiées ;

  • Qualifications (connaissances, habiletés et expérience requises) :

  • Diplôme de premier cycle en journalisme ou en arts médiatiques, ou une combinaison équivalente de formation et d'expérience dans les médias ;
  • Cinq ans d'expérience professionnelle dans le secteur de l'information, y compris la radiodiffusion et la télédiffusion ;
  • Comprendre le système politique canadien et ses enjeux ainsi que les tendances actuelles et émergentes, et maintenir à jour ses connaissances en la matière ;
  • Comprendre le cadre législatif et réglementaire et les organisations du système canadien de radiodiffusion ;
  • Excellent jugement, esprit critique et capacité de synthèse dans le domaine de l'information ;
  • olide maîtrise des techniques d'écriture, d'entrevue et de production pour la télévision et les médias numériques ; connaissance approfondie des différentes plateformes de médias sociaux ;
  • Excellentes compétences en matière de gestion du temps et d'organisation, avec la capacité de travailler sous pression et dans des délais serrés ;
  • Solides compétences et expérience en matière de gestion de projets ;
  • Être apte à travailler selon des horaires variables et à des heures irrégulières, et à faire des heures supplémentaires si nécessaire ;
