Transportation Manager to join a dynamic rail operations team. This entry-level leadership role is responsible for managing daily train operations within a designated territory or terminal while supervising unionized train crews.

safe, efficient, and compliant rail operations, while meeting service commitments and optimizing performance across a 24/7 operational environment.

Responsibilities:Safety & Compliance- Participate in Front Line Supervisor Development Programs to learn operational rules and safety standards
- Coach and train employees on safe and efficient work practices
- Conduct regular safety observations and enforce compliance with operating rules and procedures
- Support incident response, including crossing incidents, injuries, and dangerous goods events
- Assist with investigations and reporting of accidents and safety concerns
- Promote a strong safety culture and ensure adherence to the safety management plan
Operations & Decision Making- Monitor daily operations and respond to issues with urgency and sound decision-making
- Analyze operational data to improve service reliability and asset utilization
- Manage crew utilization, delays, labour costs, and scheduling efficiency
- Coordinate recovery plans for service disruptions with Rail Traffic Control and leadership teams
- Monitor and reduce terminal delays through proactive management
Planning & Coordination- Work closely with Rail Traffic Control (RTC) to manage train movements and scheduling
- Track yard status, inbound arrivals, and service commitments to ensure on-time departures
- Optimize traffic flow and support efficient train connections
- Recommend improvements to cost control and operational efficiency
Leadership & Supervision- Lead and supervise unionized employees in accordance with the collective agreement
- Communicate company goals, policies, and expectations clearly
- Conduct investigations and administer discipline with leadership and HR support
- Provide ongoing coaching, feedback, and recognition to employees
- Support administrative processes such as time-off requests and leave management
Performance Management & Training- Evaluate employee performance and provide developmental feedback
- Support onboarding to ensure employees are trained and equipped to work safely
- Address performance gaps and drive continuous improvement
- Share best practices to promote transparency and operational excellence
Qualifications and Skills:· High School Diploma
· Valid Driver's License
· Experience in industrial or safety-sensitive environments
· Strong leadership, organizational, and communication skills
· Supervisory experience (including unionized environments)
· Experience in rail operations (e.g., conductor)
· Certification as a Conductor or Locomotive Engineer
· Post-secondary education in Business, Logistics, or a related field
· Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Excel, Word)
· Experience with systems such as SAP, SRS, PAP, RTBI, DataCity, SmartYard
· Strong understanding of railway operations and safety regulations
· Strong commitment to safety and compliance
· Effective decision-making and problem-solving skills
· Ability to manage competing priorities in a fast-paced environment
· Strong leadership with the ability to coach and inspire teams
· Results-driven with a focus on service excellence and continuous improvement
· Must be legally eligible to work, and reside in Canada
