About the Role

As an Electrical Technologist, Qualified, you’ll help keep our system running safely and reliably by switching, maintaining, troubleshooting, and commissioning substation and distribution equipment across your assigned area. What You’ll Do:

  • Perform switching, commissioning, testing, and maintenance on substation and distribution equipment (, transformers, breakers, switches, control and metering circuits).
  • Troubleshoot electrical and controls issues, complete repairs, and document findings and corrective actions.
  • Install, wire, and commission new equipment and upgrades in the field, following standards and specifications.
  • Test and support protection and automation systems, including relays, PLC/RTU/SCADA and related communications.
  • Build and follow job plans, complete hazard assessments, and lead by example in safety and compliance.
  • Participate in standby/on-call rotation and respond to equipment alarms and outages; travel and overnight stays are part of the role.

What We’re Looking For:

  • Electrical Engineering Technologist Diploma, from a recognized institute of technology.
  • Minimum of - year(s) related experience.
  • Electric Power Systems knowledge would be an asset.
  • Experience in protective relay and SCADA testing would be an asset.
  • Job Planning & hazard identification.
  • Electrical testing of high voltage equipment.
  • Protective relay testing.
  • Valid driver’s license.
  • Good computer, time management and communication skills.
  • Strong technical, problem-solving, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to adapt to sudden changes in work priorities.
  • Knowledge of all applicable safety policies, procedures, regulations.
  • Environmental awareness with respect to impact of substations.
  • Ability to meet SCBA (self-contained breathing apparatus) and fitness/mask fit testing requirements.

This role includes after-hours standby; per the G- residency policy, you must maintain a residence within minutes of the Slave Lake Service Centre ( Birch Road NE, Slave Lake, AB).

We would like to thank everyone for their application; however, only those being considered for an interview will be contacted. Successful candidates will be required to complete a criminal, education and employment background check and other skills assessments as needed for the position.
