Job title : City EditorReporting to : Editor in ChiefSalary : $80,000 - $100,000Who you areYou are an experienced manager, digital editor and reporter with a passion for local journalism. You have an expert knowledge of Toronto and an insatiable curiosity to discover what’s new and lead a team who will report on people, places and stories not covered by other media.You’re comfortable working with a wide range of topics such as local news, lifestyle and culture that includes but is not exclusive to : breaking news, housing and real estate, events, food and restaurants, nightlife, shopping, local travel and outdoors and the history of the city. What you'll doLead a small team of local reporters covering local news, culture, food and lifestyle topics with an emphasis on original reporting.Plan, assign and schedule content, as well as review pitches.Help organize the writing, photography and videography resources on the Toronto team to align with editorial priorities with input from regional and national brand leaders.Pursue your own editorial assignments and work as a reporter to bring your stories to fruition.Provide ongoing feedback to team members, nurture and train staff as applicable.Participate in regular meetings via Google Meet as well as in-person meetings at the Toronto office.What you haveProven professional experience as a manager, editor and reporter covering local news, lifestyle, food, culture and / or other content about Toronto.Excellent time management., strong attention to detail and deep understanding of digital media and how to effectively write headlines and package content.Ability to succeed in a fast paced environment with quick turnarounds and deadlines, lead, manage and mentor a multi-platform team to bring ideas to life.Experience with data analytics tools and how to use them to shape editorial decisions.Willingness to work unconventional hours, evenings and weekends totalling 40-hours per week.Familiarity with the Google Suite and Adobe Photoshop.An undergraduate or master degree in Journalism is an asset.What we offerFlexible Paid Time Off Policy to ensure you're able to get the break you need and work at an optimized levelOpportunity for GrowthHybrid Work EnvironmentBenefits package including dental, vision and extended health starting after 3 monthsWe thank all applicants for applying, however, only successful candidates will be contacted.
