We are always searching the globe for exceptional candidates to join the Aecon family and be a part of our forward-thinking, innovative, best-in-class organization.Reporting to the Project Director, the Commercial Manager will be responsible for contracts & risk management ensuring that accurate and timely commercial advice in accordance with our commercial project agreement.What You'll Do Here : Change management, including schedule interpretation and claims administrationImplement an effective system to ensure that all contractually-required notices are delivered to the client in accordance with the terms of the project agreementAdminister the project contracts (project agreement, subcontracts, consultancy agreements, purchase agreements etc.), always ensuring that all contract deliverables and timelines are met while providing leadership to ensure commercial risk on project contracts are minimizedLead the drafting, review and negotiation of various contracts (with clients and subcontractors), in a way that optimizes the business’ financial, legal, risk management and reputational positionsImplement and monitor procurement scheduling and plans, facilitate competitive tendering process for materials, goods, services and equipment, including development of terms and conditions, scope and specification requirements, implementing and overseeing the bidding process with pre-qualified companies, evaluate submitted bids including tender analysis and recommendationIssue regular reporting and analytics on commercial issues to Executives (internal and JV ExCo) and Project ManagersEngage with Aecon’s insurance advisors to develop appropriate Project insurance programs and coveragesExercise proper judgment to engage with Aecon’s legal advisors to seek advice at the appropriate timesDevelop a risk management and mitigation plan to identify potential events (internal and external) that may cause the Project to fail to meet its objectives. Also, proactively analyze the risks associated with projects in the bid phaseCommercial management of project close out / post practical completion, including defect liability period and O&MLead and align a team of commercial direct reports to the Project and Aecon’s priorities by focusing the teams’ activities and holding each individual accountable for resultsDepending on the project phase and structure, may be responsible for Project Controls functions (Schedule / Cost / Risk / Document control staff and functionsGood understanding of Finance, accounting and Project reportingWhat You Bring to the Team : 10 years experience working for a Contractor on major projects / large scale projects in a lump sum or unit rate environmentMinimum of 5 years commercial management experience on major projects working in joint ventures with international partners throughout the project life cycle from bid to contract closeout.Legal, Engineering, or Quantity Surveying degree or equivalentStrong computer skills and proficient with Microsoft Office suite (i.e. Word, Excel, Outlook).Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, both oral and written.Proven organizational skills to handle multiple deadlines and tasks within a high-pressure work environment.Self-motivated, ability to learn new skills, assume new responsibilities and work cooperatively in a team environment.Aecon fosters diversity, inclusion and belonging within and across our organization.
