THE ROLE

DMC Recruitment is proud to partner with BIYORK Canada as they seek to appoint an experienced Director of Operations within their business. We are seeking an accomplished individual, with expertise leading Supply Chain, Warehouse, Logistics, and Customer Service teams. This position goes beyond a mandate of departmental management; it is a pivotal appointment that will work hand-in-hand with the CEO and as a key member of the Senior Leadership Team, to shape and sustain the trajectory of the business.

The Director of Operations will be instrumental in supporting and driving efficient teams, nurturing talent, and fostering a culture of collaboration and excellence across their departments. Their knowledge and vision will define the expectation and development of departmental improvements, strategies, and the establishment of effective processes and procedures to support team and business goals.

THE SCOPE

The Director of Operations is a pivotal role within Biyork, offering an exceptional opportunity for long-term career growth and professional development. This position is integral to the stability and success of the business, providing the chance to shape operational strategies and lead transformative initiatives that drive efficiency and service excellence.

The Director of Operations will be responsible for managing the cost, capital, and efficiency of all Operations to optimize profitability and deliver a high standard of Customer Service. They will lead teams of professionals across Supply Chain, Warehouse, Logistics, and Customer Service departments, providing direction, structure, training, and motivation to drive success. This role reports directly to the CEO and collaborates with other members of the Senior Leadership team to enhance overall business performance.

RESPONSIBILITES :

  • Manage personnel across all operational departments (Supply Chain, Warehouse, Customer Service & Logistics), ensuring effective performance.
  • Identify optimal locations for warehouses and manage leasing agreements.
  • Oversee capital and equipment matters related to operations.
  • Operate warehouses safely and within budget constraints.
  • Handle all logistics matters, including managing 3PL contracts and transportation.
  • Direct inbound and outbound transportation to ensure efficient operations.
  • Ensure high levels of customer service, focusing on timely and complete deliveries.
  • Optimize routing strategies to manage costs while providing excellent service.
  • Coordinate import sourcing logistics with Biyork China and third parties.
  • Manage inventory to support Customer Service objectives and investment efficiency.
  • Maintain safety standards and track safety metrics.
  • Report operations KPIs, budgets, and safety results to the CEO and Executive Team.
  • Travel as required (10 - 20%); facility visits, new location scouting, customer interactions, and trips to our China headquarters.

THE CANDIDATE :

The ideal candidate will bring a minimum of five years of experience in a Senior Manager or Director-level Operations role, with a proven track record of operational excellence, team efficiency, and strategically-devised business transformation. We seek a creative and tactical thinker with the ability to lead cross-functional teams, ensuring high service levels are maintained, while optimizing efficiency and safety across all departments. International experience is highly desirable, as it enhances the understanding of global supply chain dynamics and enables effective collaboration in a diverse business environment.

Applicants should demonstrate a successful history of managing cross-departmental teams and overseeing multiple locations or warehouses.

Key qualifications include :

  • 5+ years of experience with warehouse and truck leases.
  • Experience managing customer service teams or CSRs.
  • Expertise in managing warehouse and driver safety.
  • Familiarity with ERP systems and Integrated Workplace Management Systems (IWMS); experience with Dancik / Kerridge is a plus.
  • Knowledge and practical experience with sophisticated operations, supply chain, and Sales and Operations Planning (S&OP) techniques.
  • Experience managing imports.
  • At least 7 years of warehouse management experience.
  • 5+ years of purchasing management experience.
  • 5+ years of inventory management experience.
