Dumas is a leading full-service mining contractor operating in the Americas. The company’s client list includes some of the world’s largest and most respected mining companies.

Dumas is the contractor of choice for the most technically challenging underground projects, including mine construction, full-scale mine development, production mining, mine services and engineering.

The Director of Technology will be responsible for working with the Executive Team to develop and define the strategic direction for the company's Digital Transformation and will lead the execution of the strategy accordingly. This individual understands the marketplace and has a passion for taking our company to the next level. A successful candidate will have a varied background in the tech space and has a very clear feel for where technology is moving (including Business Intelligence, Big Data Analytics, Cloud Computing, AI, IoT, and Cybersecurity). The Director of Technology will be passionate, ambitious, and will have the ability to connect business needs with applicable technology solutions, understand data-driven strategies to support decision systems at Dumas all while maximizing interoperability across the Dumas business. The Director of Technology will have a demonstrated history of effectively leading their teams as well as leading cross-functionally to advance Technology initiatives across Dumas.

In addition, the Director of Technology will plan, direct, manage and oversee the day-to-day operating activities of the Development & Data Analytics team and the Information Technology Services team (helpdesk, onboarding, hardware management, telecommunications, network infrastructure, as well as administer the Technology budget.

SPECIFIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES :

  • Lead the Company’s Digital Transformation in support of it’s broader growth strategy.
  • Work with the leadership team and employees to discuss issues, coordinate activities, or resolve problems.
  • Ensure that technology standards and best practices are maintained across the company and technical problems are resolved in a timely and cost-effective manner.
  • Oversee research and case studies on leading edge technologies and makes determinations on the probability of implementation.
  • Build, manage and oversee large and small scale technology projects, including research & development, planning, and deployment. Managed based on DORA framework.
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of technology standards, industry trends, emerging technologies, and best practices.
  • Anticipate and react to major technology changes to ensure the maintenance of company leadership in the competitive landscape.
  • Ensure the company's internal technological processes and customer-facing services comply with community expectations and applicable laws and regulations for privacy, security, and social responsibility.
  • Establish technical standards and ensure adherence to them for product development and company operation.
  • Develop an annual operating budget for the department and monitor the implementation of these to ensure that the financial targets are met.
  • Negotiate service level agreements with both internal and external customers and service providers and monitor service delivery to ensure the agreed targets and standards are met.
  • Accountable for attracting, retaining, mentoring, managing, and career development of all Technology staff.
  • Direct the preparation and implementation of policies, procedures and standards relating to technology, information, and telecommunication systems.
  • Manage the ordering, acquisition, inventorying, and disposition of hardware and software while serving as primary contact with outside vendors in the generation of RFPs, bids, contracts, agreements, and other major vendor interactions.
  • Maintain the integrity and continual operation of the network including the wireless networks while ensuring the continual functioning of mission critical operations.
  • Develop, review, and certify all back-up and disaster recovery procedures and plans and oversee the implementation of network security at the corporate level.
  • Responsible for the security of all data and networks; maintain dynamic understanding of existing and future cybersecurity threats to the Company and put in place protections and training to protect the Company.

COMPETENCIES, SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE :

  • 15 years' related business and IT experience, with extensive experience managing multiple cross-functional teams or projects.
  • Bachelor's degree in a relevant field such as Computer Engineering or Computer Science.
  • Previous experience managing in a technology related company or within the Technology group of a Mining, Mining Services, Construction, or Engineering firm.
  • Strong background in business processes, technologies and systems that support best-in-class operations including high volume and high availability environments.
  • Proven success recruiting, mentoring, and fully developing a successful team.
  • Ability to balance short term tactical decisions with long term strategic thinking.
  • Demonstrated experience in change management – implementation, optimization, auditing, follow-up, reporting, and project close-out.
  • Capable of working under very stringent timelines, and ability to lead during intense situations and adapt to fast changing business conditions.
  • Strong oral and written skills, interpersonal skills, and the presence to engage effectively with a broad constituency, including board, peers, customers, vendors, partners and thought leaders in their market.
  • Ability to lead, influence and communicate across the organization.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, including the ability to establish rapport and trust.
  • Documented working experience with Microsoft Windows Environments, including MS-SQL and Microsoft Office 365 applications, SharePoint, and Power BI dashboards. Experience with Microsoft windows configuration, installation, maintenance, support and troubleshooting of TCP / IP networks supporting VoIP management, design and development of communications systems.
  • This candidate will also lead the deployment of these systems.
  • An understanding of the best technology fit for underground mining environments.
  • Involved in mine safety and an understanding of how technology can make underground mining safer.
